Re: [MBZ] Flex Disk Question

2016-06-20 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

A "gu nn con trol" parody from Hendrik:

DISARMAMENT: By Ralph Blewitt.
Make yourself a cuppa, sit back, and have a laugh.
The Turnbull government has just announced a Knife Buy Back if it wins
the July 2nd election.
Malcolm Turnbull stuttering as he said, it would funded by the sale of
.die.Bank.
He went on to say that nail clippers, hairdressing scissors would be
exempted.

Providing they where stored in a locked steel safe type box when not in use.
A parliamentary committee would be established to determine the amount
to be paid for the various weights and types of knives.
He went on to say that he had bipartisan support from Billy Shorten
providing one major exemption was allowed that All Politicians be
allowed to keep a set of backstabber knives,.
The Greens have already said that as it is their custom and practice
they will object and introduce ammendments and seek to delay the
introduction of the bill, as it did nothing to save the whales or the
Great Barrier reef.
SHY said she would support the bill if it includes the kitchen knives in
manus Island detention center kitchens.
And David Morrison AOTY said once he is declared President he would
include military Bayonet's.
Dan the man Andrews said he would consult with his masters the Unions at
the next Trades hall council meeting as it was an OHS issue and unless
there was some sort kick back from the money raised he said they would
not be supporting the bill.
Paul Keating said he never expected that floating the dollar would see
the ALP supporting an LNP government in banning knives, and went on to
say such a move could cost the ALP the election.
Julie Bishop said this would have a major impact on her negotiations
with ISIS as their sleeper terrorists already in Australia as refugees
would feel they where being unfairly treated if they could no longer
behead infidels.
Adam Bandt said it would do nothing to help climate change so he would
not be supporting the bill, unless the government borrowed more to help
pay for his sex change.
Morrison said that the budget already included offsets for the knife buy
back and it would create Jobs and Growth.
Ralph Blewitt said their all a waist of oxygen and corrupt lying thieves
who could not be trusted to walk the family dog.

fine but could be bad and need to be checked. So I guess I'll see what mine
look like before ordering any. Special thanks to Joel for guidance on doing

Local news rag had an article about landlords getting extra greedy recently.
Instead of increasing rents a bit over time, they are going big time with $1k
bumps. Retired nurses who paid $1460/mo are now stuck with $2500. A bunch of
other homes and apartments are getting the same bumps. Home prices are now
above 2007 values and rising 12% year over year. Just got a post card from the
assessor, my place jumped $200k this year.

What would be the best way to remove Win10 from an HP Pavilion Notebook
with: AMD A10-5750 M APU, Radeon HD Graphics, 8 gig ram,
AMD V5.09.5343 (64 bit)?
I have discs of Parted Magic 5.7, System Rescue 1.6.4, and most Linux distros
that I've used to remove partitions of earlier distros.

Win 10 works much better than Win8, but I don't like Microsofts privacy
invasion either. Also, I despise all the "In your face" advertising that
interrupts what you are doing in spite of running programs that are supposed to
stop it.

I also use a MacBook, and have Win7 on another PC, but want to put a Linux
distro on this computer after trying out several versions.
Thanks,
Gerry

up more than much larger cities. A one-bedroom can cost $1600, higher than
in Atlanta or Chicago. House prices have doubled in the past few years, up
more than $50,000 just in the past year. And like other cities struggling
with gentrification, the non-white population has suffered the most. In
some Charleston neighborhoods, nearly half of the African-American
residents have left, as even in areas riddled by higher crime rates,
four-bedroom apartments are renting for up to $3000 a month, with students
snatching them up. Meanwhile, struggling families, many working in

[MBZ] Gateway M285-E backlight a widows 10

2016-06-20 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Amongst the junk i was trying to get rid of was a Gateway M285-E turns
out it is Core 2 Duo, so the processor is El Crap approved.H

So it spent 24 hours downloading and doing the widders 10 downgrade.
In theory it is better than the dell/ubuntu I have for a shop computer.

About halfway through, i could no longer see stuff on the screen. Seems
it needs a new backlight, symptoms fit... A new backlight is $15.
Anyone ever replaced one in a Gator way?

Widders 10 questions:
1. I tried to find "computer (etc)" to right click on the change
the computer name. How do ya do dat?

2. I tried to change the user name or add a new user. It appears
that you can't add a new user without making up some "person" and giving
M$ the name, address, serial number, rank, Birthdate, Blood type, email
address, country, bank account numbers, credit card number and so
forth. (OK, so I exaggerate slightly, ...but not much!) I could not
find a listing of accounts to rename the existing user account. Any
clues how I can change the user's name?

Seems M$ is up to the old tricks, trying to copy everything their R&D
Dept (Apple) does. Widders 10 has a fake Siri and all manner of other
stuff copied from R&D 10.10 or 10.11.

3. Is there any way to change to the "classic" interface, or the
XP bubblegum interface" or anything else that might be more understandable?

TIA! 10.11 AND widders 10 at the same time are blowing my FUSES!
(RIP Herr Doktor)

Re: [MBZ] OT Some might appreciate this

2016-06-20 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Oh! cardboard/newspaper in the bottom is good stuff. No need to ask
about that. just lay down the cardboard, put your raised bed over it.
Trim the cardboard to the outside of the bed. put all the newspaper you
want in the frame, toss in some sand, compost, topsoil, clay, peat or
whatever you want in your majik mix. I use at least half compost, but
it shrinks a lot, so you have a lot more shallow bed by fall. next
spring just filler up and start over. Ash from burned buildings or
grasslands is great to add too. As is cow or BS.

BEWARE: since you have roots below, the cardboard and paper will
promote root growth, not keep the tree roots out. Because of this you
probably want to throw all the dirt and roots out in the fall or spring
to kill off the roots, then toss it all back in. Or just put the shower
liner under the cardboard.

The yuppie variation is to run the shower liner up the side a couple
inches and staple it. That makes a "pond" for water. Then you want
gravel to the top of the pond, then your majik mixture over the top of
that. With a yuppie raised bed, once the plants are established, you
never have to waterin theory or at least, seldom need to water!

"sheet composing community" You mean there are that many of you that
have given up the secret society, and need to compost yer sheets? The
eye cutouts will aid the composting process.

Sheet composting is a term for laying down sheets of cardboard or
newspaper

in a framed bed prior to shoveling in soil (compost, manure, etc.). These
sheets of paper or cardboard decay while killing off the grass/weeds.

The notion of using plastic shower curtains or bed sheets in these beds is
an insult to the sheet composing community

Actually this one got fined from some campaign violations but as far as
I know the fine has not yet been paid, it is not an inconsequential
sum. Another one (I don't know him but he is a good friend of another
friend) got fired and fined for using campaign money to buy some "gifts"
at an adult products shop, gifts for some ladies with whom he was
acquainted. There are a bunch of others too, but the thing to realize
is that here in SC they are all scalawags, D, R, whatever. Some of them
are OUR scalawags though, so that makes a difference, as long as they
stay bought and don't go off the reservation too far.

Re: [MBZ] OT Some might appreciate this

2016-06-20 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
Sheet composting is a term for laying down sheets of cardboard or newspaper
in a framed bed prior to shoveling in soil (compost, manure, etc.). These
sheets of paper or cardboard decay while killing off the grass/weeds.

The notion of using plastic shower curtains or bed sheets in these beds is
an insult to the sheet composing community

Shishido peppers, grilled/roasted a bit over a flame with some olive
oil and salt. I like the smaller ones maybe 2-3" long but my farm
stand neighbor had a bunch that were bigger, maybe 4" or a bit more.
I was a bit reluctant that they might be tough or have stronger
flavor, but I put them on the cooktop grill last night and did them
all, they were quite nice, no different from the smaller ones so
that was a pleasant surprise. They would probably be a bit nicer on
a charcoal flame with some smoke, or to use a smoked salt, I'll have
to try that on the next batch if I have a real fire going.

I used to fight them falling in the grill but I got a perforated
grill sheet pan to do them on, it works fine.

They make a nice horse doover to munch on as they come off the fire,
with a cold IPA or something crisp and white or bubbly. We had a big

just managed to have them all to myself last night! I had also bought

Just a hint of smoke flavor to the corn, which was excellent

We had a big
party Sat evening, I was going to grill them for that but forgot so
just managed to have them all to myself last night! I had also bought
a bunch of peaches to grill but got distracted too so will have to do
those the next time and just eat these.

WARNING: They are quite addictive.

Just make a raised bed over the top of your roots. SHower liner plastic
underneath will probably go a long way toward keeping roots out of your
raised bed. I have never composed sheets, but given time, they will
compost as long as they are cotton. I compost everything. I have
composted burlap in the past. I have 2 bins, 5' deep, 5' high and 6'
long. Each fall they are running over, even with stomping them down as
much as we can. THen transfer side to side to rotate.

I made an elevated raised bed. I call it the feed trough (ideal for the
pigs in DC) It is the hight of a horse feed bunk to attempt to keep out
the rabbits. It does not keep out coons and possums or squirrels. I
still need an electric fence for them.

Gotta put in a vegetable bed somewhere in my back yard "lawn". I was
planning to frame in a bid directly on the "grass" without tilling (too
many roots). Anybody have any experience with sheet composting?

[MBZ] More stupid computers

2016-06-20 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes

SWMBA has been particularly A at sharing her 2007 MacBook Pro,
in particular our son locks it up evening after evening doing
his homework at a glacial pace. This weekend I got a late-2008
MacBook Pro off of Craigslist, with 250GB HD and 8 GB RAM,
for $220. (This will not run El Capitan's successor Sierra,
and I used that fact to knock him down a bit on price. Nothing
we have will officially run Sierra, though I nurture hopes that
the hacker community will come through, should we ever find that
we need to run it.) The dog hair, cigarette smoke, and tattoo
parlor stickers were no extra charge.

Yesterday I loaded it up with El Crap and the contents of the
older MBP, and I spent this morning cleaning it. It's running
its first full backup now, and will probably satisfy the 'problem'.

[MBZ] OT - Panel Cutting Layout Software

2016-06-20 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Youngest boy wants to build an owl house, so I was looking around to see if I
could find some freeware to do the panel layout. Came across this web site:

www.optimalon.com

They have a free online layout program that is really slick. I entered my
stock panel sizes and the dimensions of the individual parts and it gave me a
layout and cutting diagram.

Do note that you have to enter Imperial values in feet and inches, not just
inches (1' 11" for a 23" long panel, for example.)

Otherwise it's pretty easy to do.

Enjoy!
