Anyone got a good supplier for Bilstein shocks?

I just realize the dripping fluid I was seeing around my left rear
wheel on the 300D was from a leaking shock.

Are the top shock mounting bolts on the W123 sedan in the trunk or
behind the rear seat back?

There was a European adapter plugged into the back, which I removed to find a
regular connector socket in its place.

Looked like this when you remove it:

Examine the insulation for both front wheel sensor wires, especially the part
in the wheel well. If the insulation looks cracked, replace the sensor.

Theoretically you can measure the sensor output as an AC voltage signal, but I
had trouble discerning output that was bad enough to make the light go on, so I
decided to replace both front sensors, and that solved my problem.

Anyone got a good supplier for Bilstein shocks?

I just realize the dripping fluid I was seeing around my left rear wheel on the

Are the top shock mounting bolts on the W123 sedan in the trunk or behind the

[MBZ] Continental Radio

I installed the $10,000 Continental radio in the W126 today:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331579949120?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Pretty straightforward install considering the instructions are cryptic, to say
the least. Gave me the opportunity to straighten out all the wiring from the
PO’s stereo installer. What a mess!

Sounds great, works well, and after some help from Max with getting the
Bluetooth working, got it paired with my phone and tried out some calls. I’m
especially pleased with the sound, as it even sounds better than the PO’s Sony
aftermarket head unit. If the radio reception is better than the R129’s
Blaupunkt I may order another one of these to replace it.

Re: [MBZ] Let the Martha'ing Begin!

2016-12-04 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Took it easy today to give the body a rest and pay some attention to the W126,
who has been feeling neglected of late.

Spent some time installing the Mercedes factory W123 rear mud flaps, which were
the “mystery item” I mentioned the other day. They arrived yesterday, so I
spent a little time this morning cleaning up the flaps and then installed them
this afternoon.

The brackets and everything are well thought out, but I’m not sure I like them.
They’re a black material, some sort of rubber, with white fibers embedded in
it. At first I thought there were a bunch of weird crud on them, but when I
looked closer I realized it was the exposed fibers I was seeing.

Anyway, they’re installed but I already covered the car for the night before I
realized I should take some pictures. Maybe tomorrow.

Not bad. The graphic of the tire and wheel is a nice touch too.

I built a spreadsheet years ago for transmission, speed, tire
calculations. I added a tire size tab last year. Similar to the
website, but with the spreadsheet I can look at 8 tires sizes at
once.

And I don't need to be on-line to use it, which may not be a
factor for some. *smiles*

Mine is called transmissionplusspeed_1.2.ods and is hosted at:
http://host-a.net/fmiser/

In addition to Tire Sizes, it has tabs for calculating
differential or transmission ratios, and another for seeing speed
and rpm at different gear ratios - with room for up to a 13 speed
transmission.

I can export a .xls file if anyone wants it and can't open the
Open Document format.

No seal/heat shield is going to give you lousy compression.

So will putting the pre-chamber from a #14 head into a #17 or #22 --
they don't seal tight at the seal rim at the top.

370 is fine, 270 and it won't start.

[MBZ] 603 compression test

2016-12-04 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
Ok so I am back on the SDL today installing Bozio nozzles and checking
compression, this being the car we discussed last week. I have the injector
body for the first one soaking in parts cleaner while checking 1st 2 holes.
Engine is stone cold. Both #1 and 2 came up 270 dry, and #1 came up 370 wet. I
was getting ready to check #2 wet when I discovered there were no heat shields
installed on 1 2 and 6. Wow well ok then that could be a problem. I stopped
there to post this. I was not going to install the rebuilt injectors yet anyway
as I forgot to order new head shields and my rule of thumb is to replace them.
I guess at least for testing purposes I will move the heat shields I do have in
the engine around. I am sure I have some used ones around here but I do believe
you are supposed to replace them when the injectors are removed.

I use a suction pump similar to what Dan has. It is over 35 years old and still
works well. I bought it new (God, I'm old). If I was going to do a lot of them,
on a regular basis, I would get a gallon garden sprayer, cut the nozzle end
off, slip on some tubing, and use that.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic. I have also used Red Line in other vehicles‎.

Here is MB spec site.

I'd try the six dollar pump. It's only six bucks.
