Jails are full of people who made "bad choices". My take on his actions
is, regardless of how it is phrased, his action constitutes "Mens Rae"
which is a legal term for "Thought followed by Act" and is the qualifier
for having done a criminal act.

With all respect and regard for SHMBO wearing the legal hat... I suggest
you would be best served to engage local counsel and push legal resolution.

To my knowledge, there is no specific requirement to settle vehicle damage
quickly. So I brush off that his "desire to settle quickly" was a factor.

SWMBA is sort of looped in. Overly busy with all the oil and gas work, now
that Turnip has let loose the hounds of bidness, and smote the enviro-wienies.

I did make mention regarding the question if Amica trained him to be a putz, or

On more contemplation, I suspect he made a conscious choice to speed along a

desire to work with single stage, no ability to match the paint with the stuff

Re: [MBZ] Resurrecting dead batteries

2017-09-30 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
back in the day, I dumped the 62 190Dc battery out, then refilled it
with acid. I also exercised it by alternately running it down with a
headlamp, then recharging with 4 amp charger. I kept it alive for a
year or so, until the car was stolen.

Mitch Haley via Mercedes
September 30, 2017 at 11:49 AM
They don't show you driving to FLAPS, ordering a gallon of H2SO4, and
refilling the battery?

I remember reading similar advice in the Tips column in Cycle Magazine
in the early 1970s, pretty much amounted to dump acid, refill with
water, wrap in foam padding, beat with sledgehammer, flush with water,
beat (gently) with sledgehammer, repeat until water comes out clean,
refill with factory fresh battery acid. But I can't remember actually
doing that to a motorcycle battery.

When the Interstate died in my first car, I did the above and it
worked. Except I shook the battery and bounced it in the grass instead
of hitting it with a BFH. I parked the car a year or two later so I
can't say how long the fix would have lasted.

I can hear the kollyphonyians screaming already: "up to half of the
evaporated water could be captured..." which means that the half
collected will no longer fall as rain. THis means that arid areas will

into arid zones.Kollyphonyians are already mad that some other

Evaporation Energy will most likely fail prior to any implementation.
Somewhere down the line, this system will be found problematic, i.e.
we've seen this stuff before. How does it affect the biome of the
body of water? Who wants their prime real estate cluttered with
evaporation energy capture devices? This might seem to be a free
lunch, but there will be plenty to speak against it. Not unlike the
1970 National Flood Insurance Program? - didja watch The Water's Edge

minds. No free lunch.

Re: [MBZ] Total my car

2017-09-30 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
A... Contraire` mon ami

To work at the insurance company, which has to possess a license from the
State, the individual working for that company has to also either be
licensed, or meet some state requirements to work the business In every
state I have experience in dealing with..

Thus... the Company is legally culpable for the actions of it's employees
to follow the law failure to do so.. either by deliberate intent, or by
negligence... qualifies as having done harm to our esteemed fellow
member... ie "individually harmed".

If it is found in the discovery phase of trial preparation, such actions
are "regular and common" and the Company not only allows it, but practices
such in due course, even more powerful... for the plaintiff...

I have contact with an attorney here who, for the past 40 years has only
taken insurance malpractice cases... He has not lost a case in 38 years
I'm sure there is another like him in the subject state

Re: [MBZ] Resurrecting dead batteries

2017-09-30 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It's been a few decades since college chemistry classes, but the dead
battery has accumulated particles of lead sulfate which is the reaction of
the lead plates and the sulfuric acid solution over time. As the particles
separate from the plates, they migrate to the space at the bottom of the
plates and "pile up". Eventually, the pile fills the available space and
bridge the plates, which shorts them out, and causes a 12 volt battery to
become a 10 volt battery.. or something less, depending on how much plate
contact is made

Thus the pounding to break up the lead sulphate stack... after dumping
out the sulfuric acid... then a wash out with distilled water and Epsom
salt [alkaline to neutralize the acid / lead reaction on surface of the
lead plates

So the process, in principle at least, is to dump the acid, beat the
stack of sulphates loose, flush them out.. fill with distilled water and
Epsom salts and apply a charge on the "tired plates" for 36 to 48 hours
THEN flush them again to carry away the residual particles of lead sulphate
that were still attached to the plate surface [hopefully] leaving "clean"
lead that will react with "Clean acid" solution, and make 2.5 volts at each
of the 6 cells of the 12 volt battery...

Personally.,, buy a new battery turn in the dead one as a
core.. let the battery recycle people reclaim the acid... and the lead
and the plastic case.. [they do all of that.] and go on with life...

[MBZ] Pick 'n' Pull?

2017-09-30 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Anyone got a decent PnP they go to that might have some W210 chassis cars in it?

I am looking for the plastic box that’s located under the radio. In some cars,
like mine, that had the factory cell phone option the cell phone controller is
located behind the door along with a small recess for storing pens and pencils
or something. It’s the same assembly with the cell phone delete, except
there’s a large plastic box in place of the cell phone controller. Plastic
tabs hold both in place, it’s a simple matter of popping the whole assembly out
if you can reach in where the radio opening is and release a tab. Once that’s
done the whole thing comes out, then it’s a couple of plastic tabs on the top
and bottom of the box to free it from the door assembly.

The box does not appear to be sold as a service part, and I don’t want the
whole assembly as I want to keep my door so my interior wood matches.

Thanks,

Dan

I probably depends on _why_ and _how_ the battery failed.

Beating it will dislodge the crud on the plates exposing "fresh"
lead. That should result in almost new battery performance - but
with thinner plates it won't be as durable either from vibration
or deep discharge.

I haven't tried any of the above. Maybe I should...

Seems to me, you have legal standing to bring suit against them for
such actions. Far and above any damage done to you, or your car.

In this state, such actions would qualify for a tripple damages clause
in the settlement at court.
Case could be made the offending INSco bypassed all legal restraint
and violated insurance license requirements of ethical actions.

About now.. I would be dialing a lawyer... were it me.

Yeah, it looks like it was just a single message I sent with a link to my web

it didn’t appear to be going through. I appended it to the radio thread and it
went through.

Weird.

Re: [MBZ] Resurrecting dead batteries

2017-09-30 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
They don't show you driving to FLAPS, ordering a gallon of H2SO4, and refilling
the battery?

I remember reading similar advice in the Tips column in Cycle Magazine in the
early 1970s, pretty much amounted to dump acid, refill with water, wrap in foam
padding, beat with sledgehammer, flush with water, beat (gently) with
sledgehammer, repeat until water comes out clean, refill with factory fresh
battery acid. But I can't remember actually doing that to a motorcycle battery.

When the Interstate died in my first car, I did the above and it worked. Except
I shook the battery and bounced it in the grass instead of hitting it with a
BFH. I parked the car a year or two later so I can't say how long the fix would
have lasted.

See that's the thing. So all these videos show dumping the acid and refilling
with distilled water and epsom salt, so I guess then it does not have acid
anymore, unless the salt water turns into acid. I just don't know about battery
chemistry and such.

[MBZ] Resurrecting dead batteries

2017-09-30 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
So I had a set of batteries out of the truck I was going to try to see if I
could drain the batteries and fill with distilled water and epsom salt solution
as shown online in many videos. Did that, put on charger at 2 amps which they
say to leave on for 36-48 hours. After probably 18 hours it was up to about
10.5 volts. Went out the next day and it was down to about 9.2, so went down
instead of up. Was on the charger another day and it was still 9 or so, so I
pulled them off and called it a failure. With the caps off I would see an
occasional bubble ever now and then but not a steady amount on all cells like
you would expect.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's just business as usual,
proceeding blithely along and gittin 'er done as quickly as possible.

The fact that it's not his/her car and they have no right to dispose of it
unless they purchase it, and only after they have actually completed the
purchase just never entered into their tiny brain.

You don't have a contract with them that gives them the right to purchase your

them over the size of the check they'll have to give you to make you shut up

The spare I have is a BE6003/Audio 30. It has a D2B fiber connector on the
back along with the other analog connections.

I just took it out and plugged it into the wagon and it worked perfectly. No
CD changer, but I wasn’t surprised by that since the changer it works with is
fiber, not copper.

The Audio 30 unit in the 2002 is supposed to be a B3309, so I’m not completely
sure what the difference is. The 3309 doesn’t show as having a D2B fiber
connection, which could mean my changer would still work in the wagon.

Jaime?

Re: [MBZ] New W210 Wagon

2017-09-30 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Maybe Jaime will jump in here, but as far as I know the only thing I might have
to do is add the “wake up” signal to the third connector that the CANBUS input
needs.

Otherwise, the analog connections are all the same. The only difference is in
the third connector where the CANBUS signals come and go.

I have a service manual for the radio that details all the connections.

Let me know if that works, I don't think it will since the 98 uses the older 14
whatever number it is which was the same one found in 94 and up 124 140 etc. in
99 they went to the new iirc fiber optic radio that somewhat integrated into
the the car. I know when I have the laptop hooked up to our 99 210s I can
access the radio and it says diagnose on the radio display, so it's tied in
somehow.

You’re being generous, unless the car is really clean.

Being sensitive to your plight after having to deal with the disposal of my
former 2003 S420, I’d say your numbers are a little high. These things are
like cockroaches around here and they just don’t sell. I’m not sure whether
it’s the reputation they have for being a PITA to maintain or their lack of
style/design that makes them look like every other car on the road.

During my recent search for a W210 I saw these littering CL in my area. Almost
as bad as the C class stuff.

Re: [MBZ] New W210 Wagon

2017-09-30 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Of course Crutchfield doesn’t do installs, but it’s certainly possible a DIY’er
did this who was very meticulous. The crimp connectors they used appeared to
be done with a pneumatic crimper, as they were all spaced exactly the same and
very consistent. Wire lengths were all the same and the harness was tie
wrapped neatly with all the wires laid out in order. It was a thing of beauty.

Crutchfield has a hard time with harnesses for the Bose systems. I’ve found
they like to provide the Metra harness that has RCA jacks for the amplifier
inputs, which rarely works well, even with a head unit that has 4.0 volt preamp
outputs. The other Metra harness that is just speaker wires is the best as the
amp ends up getting driven really hard, which it needs to provide the best
sound.
