Re: [MBZ] 1993 400E Stuff

2018-02-04 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Talked to the owner again today. Resolved a few minor questions.

Headlight wipers are in the trunk. They got taken off for cleaning some time
ago and didn’t get reinstalled.

For the parts I need, like window regulator, hood pad, etc., I’ve yet to find
anything that’s more than about $50. Amazing how cheap some of the parts are
for this car. Third brake light assembly completely shattered when they tried
removing it to replace the bulb. Yeah, I’ve seen that happen more times than I
like. A new one is like $125, probably the most expensive part on the car.
And they’re only available in a couple of colors, so it will probably have to
be painted. Heck, a new interior rear view mirror is only $54.00 from
Mercedes. Dang.

I have notes from years ago on a homemade FluidFilm

from http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=155136

The original formula is (by volume) 3 Lanolin, 3 Mineral
oil and 7 Mineral Spirits [paint thinner] The formula was
available on the MSDS before the current owners bought FF.

Even if it's not exactly the same as the current formula, it's
probably still quite effective.

We piled up 3000 pounds of sand bags per the previous discussion- works
great. SWMBO and I went for a walk down our half-mile road while son was
shooting his .30-06. You could hear the rifle VERY well at a half mile

[MBZ] Winter 240D body maintenance

2018-02-04 Thread Dimitri via Mercedes
I have some down time so I’ve been doing some small rust repairs on the
pastelgrau 1978 240D. Cleaning up rust around the lower door trim clip holes
and protecting with miracle paint before replacing clips and re-attaching the
trim. The passenger front door had a small bit of rust through at the bottom
back corner. Not set up with my welder now so just cleaned it up, and applied
miracle paint in combination with fiberglass. Seems to work quite well. I think
it’s going to be a fairly permanent repair. I’ve also been spraying many of the
body cavities and inside of door bottoms with fluid film for rust protection.
This is a winter driver so I have to do my best to keep it from rusting to bits!

I was a #4 last year for no particular reason that I can recall. I just thought
it would be nice to make it through game day without even knowing who was
playing. Some morning radio jock ruined it for me the Thursday before the game.

This year I was a bit more deliberately observant in my National Felon League
ignoring, because of the whole "let's all protest the National Anthem because
we don't like the President" thing.
I was doing such a good job I didn't even think of the StupidBowl or trying to
avoid it until about ten days ago when, once again, I heard about it on the
radio.

Did somebody say it wasn't going to be on broadcast TV, so they have a ready
excuse for any drop in viewer numbers? If I were an advertiser looking to spend
millions in 30 seconds, my willingness to pay would be lowered this year, and
lowered a lot if the game isn't broadcast.

Copper propane line?
Around here the installer buries it with a spade, chops through the sod,
wiggles the spade a bit to make room, then chops the spade in 8" farther down
the path...
In that case, the line will be 6-8" deep and in a pretty straight line from the
tank to the building, if the two ends of the bury are line of sight to each
other.
