I think you can squirt some carb cleaner in, light it on fire, then feed it
compressed air from a gun until all the crud is burned out. I posted a
video link to it one time.

[MBZ] 124 questions

First question, are 124 103 powered coupes worth anything? I figure a 104
powered one would be but surely even the 103 ones have some sort of niche? 2nd
question, will a 722.3 that was installed behind a 103 work behind a 104?
Maybe with a valve body swap at the most?

Re: [MBZ] OT - Aebleskiver and t-shirts and '85 300D

2018-03-01 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I don't know about the W123 trannies (mine was manual) but it's easy to
change the shift "hardness" on the W124 auto-trannies. Pull of a rubber cap
on the vacuum modulator, pull the "T" out with needle nose pliers, turn it
a notch or two, push it back in, put the rubber cap back on. Drive it to
see if you turned the direction you wanted and enough.

2018-03-01 Thread MG via Mercedes
So I must have the best of both worlds, an 83 300TD that has an
85 differential in it. I do like that for the lower RPM on the
highway but it does impact just slightly on the acceleration. The
mileage seems to be very slightly better with the 85 diff but
then it may be just that I've slowed down a bit.

I do still have the old transmission in it so the shift has not
changed. I can still and do like the fact that I can feel it shift.

Anyway, the new E-GAS module arrives today, I got a big order in from the
dealer yesterday, and earlier in the week some other bits and bobs showed up,
so I’ve gots lots to do.

Tonight I’ll try the new module with the hopes that it’s the culprit for the
LHM and ASR light. I’ve got new keys and a new ignition lock so that’s a
priority. The rest is all piddly stuff I’ll take a whack at as time permits,
such as a new windshield washer reservoir and pumps, the clips for the last
lower body cladding panel, and a new set of front rotors and ceramic pads.

Odometer gears are expected today as well, so that also might get addressed
shortly, too. Waiting on the tiny bulbs for the BE1432 faceplate to arrive so
I can replace the burnt out ones and finally see the radio at night.

Costco has a really good deal on Michelins, so I’ll head up there and get a set
ordered. The tires that are on it aren’t too bad, but they’re old. I noticed
some sidewall damage on one of the rear tires when I was under the car last
weekend.

So still plenty to do...

Re: [MBZ] Fwd: 5-Speed Manual Transmissions

2018-03-01 Thread MG via Mercedes
That leaves me feeling cold. At over $5000 for just the
transmission and from the looks of it they don't know what they
are talking about because the starter on the 617 is NOT on the
upper left bu the lower right.

Just saying. Mind you if it was $2 or $3000 with everything
needed for the conversion and if the transmission actually was
for the 617 I might just bite. But...

Five-Speed Manual Transmissions!
This is one of the most commonly requested item that we have had to regretfully
say 'sorry, we don't have that'. Well, no longer.
We now offer three different 5-speed transmissions

 for Classic Mercedes-Benz.
For diesel vehicles, we have both the 717.400

 and the 717.422
,
which are good used transmissions pulled from diesel G-Wagen models and shipping here from Germany.
For gasoline V8 models, we have the 717.402
,
 which is also available remanufactured
.
This transmission was found in the R107 350SL and C107 350SLC, and thus is a great candidate for other
roadsters, or other M116 & M117 3.5L and 4.5L motors, which were also found in W108, W109, W111 and W116
models.
Transmissions from Germany will take 3-4 weeks to arrive, however an expedited
shipping method is available for an additional $300.
Depending on your model, we may be able to help you with additional parts like
flywheel, clutch parts, shifters, linkage rods, and clutch pedals.

As always, if you're looking for any other parts for your Classic Mercedes, please
contact us if you
can't find what you're looking for. We have thousands of new parts and hundreds of
used parts not yet listed in our online catalog, and we will combine shipping.

Re: [MBZ] 400E Fun

2018-03-01 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
I might still be interested. When I get this one out for a bulbectomy I was
planning on taking a deeper look. It’s the original and hasn’t been touched,
so I’m sure it’s tired. Probably needs belts, rollers, etc.

Make me a deal...and you know it would get a good home.

For what it’s worth, my intentions are not to flip this car but keep it as a
third vehicle for backup purposes. Due to the age, mileage and condition I
don’t see it being a viable BAT candidate, and I enjoy driving it, too. I plan
on making it nice but not go over the top as I couldn’t recover my costs
if/when I sell it.
