Its aluminum. I won't take a power tool to it. Scraping is slow with
a razor blade. about 1/16th to 1/32 of a square inch at a time, if you
get a good bite. Most of the time you don't get a good bite. Still a
danger of gouging the aluminum. THe $ hit is probably 5-10 thousandths
" thick. Too thick to get a good seal with a new gasket. I think I
have most of the first one scraped down to where the $ hit is only .001
to .003 thick.

Tried denatured alcohol. It made the thick spots easier to see, but no
solvent qualities I could see. I might try paint stripper next. I got
so disgusted I quit for today.

If you are scraping gasket material off of a cast iron surface, I've found
the Harbor Freight vibration saw [the one on sale for $15 ] with the
scraper blade that can be bought for it, is the best thing since canned
beer.

If the stuck gasket is on aluminum... proceed at your own caution, The
tool

can get pretty aggressive and I fear damage to the surface would / could
happen.

On cast material.. .Bobs your uncle. I peeled a 40 yr old head gasket off
heads and block that would otherwise only come off with a surface grinder.

Ubuntu has a pretty good GUI. I use it at work for Linux based stuff I have to
do and I like that it lets me easily move back and forth between the CLI and
GUI.

A lot of security tools are CLI based, as they often have to run on the
absolute minimum amount of resources, or they have to avoid disturbing existing
processes so as to not goober things up.

And there are times when I might want to check my NIC configuration, for
example, and it’s a heck of a lot easier to type a command in the CLI and get
the information than have to click through three or four different menus or
screens.

The last time I tried Linux, if you wanted to go to some file or do something,

Lol, yeah, computer upgrades are a huge PITA considering the
underlying hardware is essentially unchanged for the last decade.

I'm fighting the battle of needing "new" software to get camera files
into Photoshop, now that there are finally digital cameras capable of
enough resolution to bother with them, I really need a "new" OS -- all
because none of the vendors support anything up the latest "upgrade"
of OS that does nothing new except eat up processor power.

Either that or I'm getting old and don't need to be entertained much, eh?

Same problem at work, we get flack from the overseas management
because we need Windoze 7 (or better, XP) computers to run instruments
for which there is no newer software, and new instruments are in the
250K and up range. Every couple years we have to train a new "IT" guy
on why we dont' have the latest and greatest, and if they'd take the
blasted things off the internet, we don't need all the anti-virus
stuff, either

This thing has Win10 Home on it.  I figured out how to see the menu bar
on FF, it was as you say.  It astounds me that M$FT dumbed down the OS
so much that nothing is particularly visible by default, but it shonuff
can annoy the hell out of me with constant pop-ups for various what I
guess are supposed to be some kind of utilities bugging me to do some
kind of settings or something.  XP was no charmer, but at least it was
sorta basic and it worked, however unintuitively. This thing is an
abomination.
