Re: [MBZ] Hawaii Volcano
Have not found the exact location on a map, but it is near Pahoa. The pool at the Puu o'o vent sunk, filling underground tubes, and this resulted in a breakout in the Leilani Village area. Apparently Madame Pele is not happy with the pakalolo growers union in the Pahoa area (Puna district). On a Star Trek theme on StarWars "May the Forth be with you" day, Harry Kim, the former CD coordinator for Hawaii county (island) is now the Mayor of Hawaii County! Go Harry He is the real life namesake and inspiration for the Harry Kim character on Star Trek. https://www.nps.gov/havo/planyourvisit/lava2.htm Pu'u o'o is the longest eruption in the recorded history if Kilauea. It started with a spectacular fountain on Jan 3, 1983, and we were there to see it. People ran around where we were staying in Puna to tell everyone about it, so we drove up to the highway junction and watched the fountain. https://www.soest.hawaii.edu/GG/HCV/puuoo_history.html "January 3, 2018 marked the 35st anniversary of the Pu`u `O`o eruption on the east rift zone of Kilauea Volcano. It has the distinction of being the longest-lived historical rift zone eruption at Kilauea. It is also the most voluminous (>3 km^3 ) and one of the most compositionally variable (5.7-10.1 wt% MgO) in the Kilauea historic record. This on-going eruption has had many different phases and types of activity over it's long life and continuous to amaze with its persistence. It has produced a broad field of lava flows that have buried over 120 sq km of the volcano's south flank and poured into the Pacific Ocean, adding more than 230 hectares of new land to the island. In 2014 it sent lavas far to the NE, a first for the eruption, extending sme 20 km to the outskirts of the town of Pahoa. Lavas from this eruption have unfortunately destroyed several communities and numerous man-made structures along the south coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, including 189 houses, a National Park Service Visitor Center at Waha`ula, a church, a store, the Waha'ula Heiau (a 700 year old Hawaiian place of worship), and many other ancient Hawaiian sites. The coastal highway in this part of the Big Island has been closed for 13 years, as flows covered 14 km of it with lava now as deep as 35 m." Current stuff: https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/04/us/kilauea-volcano-hawaii-earthquakes/index.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-7psT1Mv-I Ok, here is the location, on this map http://www.staradvertiser.com/2018/05/03/breaking-news/kilauea-volcano-may-2018/ My uncle had a place at Kapoho. Sounds like time to order a new tumbler. Wiggling and jiggling may get it to turn one more time, be ready with a set of 2mm pins (a bicycle spoke makes a good tool) to insert (grind angles on tips) so you can pull the tumbler. Extreme method is to vibrate the key with a sander while twisting to get the pins to release and turn the tumbler one more time... - Max Charleston SC On Fri, May 4, 2018 at 4:27 PM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Nanny says she cannot turn the key in the lock of the e420. Yup. You’ve probably got a bad lock cylinder. Best to do a Wilton on it with the vibratory sander and see if you can free it up for the removal. A new cylinder with key matched to your VIN is under $100 from the dealer. -D > On May 4, 2018, at 4:27 PM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes > wrote: > > Nanny says she cannot turn the key in the lock of the e420. There wouldn't have been any need to drain the oil if the water was under 2' deep, there wouldn't have been muddy water residue on the seats if the water was under 3' deep, but there's no way of knowing if they launched it at a boat ramp and put it entirely under water. Rubbing compound or polishing compound? I've used the latter, I'd have assumed the former was too harsh... When we first got Angie's Golf it had little spots of roofing tar that had dripped onto it, nothing I tried would remove it. The glass on this $500E300D is really nasty. I did some windexing a coupla times and it still has a lot of greasy film on it. What to do? The old newspaper and vinegar water (which will stink) or something else better? I was driving it last night, it has been running pretty well but it started hesitating and kinda down on power, wasn't shifting quite right. I filled it with dizzel on a nearly empty tank, I'm thinking that stirred up some crap so I need to change fuel filters now. I hope the EGR hasn't clogged up again, I need to just do the wiring bypass on it. Getting the new cheepcheep Kumho tars put on it Tuesday. The kid at the tar shop was all excited about the car, I was telling him it was a $500 diesel and he thought that was so cool. He had a Mustang in the parking lot he was turning into a track car, interior was stripped out and he was putting in a cage and doing various other things to it.
