[MBZ] Attractive 250C on BAT
The color appears to match the moss green metallic on my old 280SE 3.5 coupe. Lots to like but not perfect. Any guesses as to where the hammer will come down? I say $12,500. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-mercedes-benz-250c-7/?utm_source=dailymail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2018-12-05 ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I've always reused the axle nut on vw and MB. There is always a way to crush it into the slot in a new place. Never lost one. Nobody (FLAPS or STEALER) ever stocks the nut. A third or 4th use might be getting a little sketchy, but a second use, I don't fear. Meade Dillon via Mercedes wrote on 12/5/18 7:52 AM: Bravo! There is a significant focus in the heavy truck industry on making electrical system connections tighter because the use of CaCl and MgCl. These chemicals are worse to much worse than NaCl for rotting things. It used to be that once you made it through the winter and did a little cleanup, you were good to go. With these chemicals, you need to clean them out thoroughly because they will draw moisture out of the air and continue their nefarious activities -- a gift that keeps on giving ... I recall dust in the air post-snows in Los Alamos when we first moved there (2002), but apparently the EPA got after them, too. Rock salt here. I'm sure our friends can tell us what they do in the People's Republics of Massachusetts and Rhode Isle. Like Craig said, where it's so cold you don't dare shut down without a place to plug in your block heater, it's far cheaper and more effective to put studs and chains on the cars. They salt in Spokane. They did not when I first moved here, but the EPA (!) forced them to. They used to sand, but that led to dust in the air. Hence, sand was banned, and salt was substituted. Thus they traded the pitting of paint and glass for wholesale rotting of the entire car. Were it not for this salt I would still be driving my beloved Frankenheap in the winter, but instead _another_ car has to be procured, etc. Wonder what the ecological impact is of _making_ an entire car that would otherwise not have been necessary? Around here it looks to be brine, but we passed a rock salt truck on the freeway on our trip to Yakima this Thanksgiving. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I can't speak for the east, but between the rockies and the appalachians, they salt the crap out of the roads, especially in the fall. The salt of choice has gone from rock salt to liquid brine. They will put the brine on the roads before it snows. As the winter wear on and the salt gets used up, and or the funds to buy salt dry up, the salt crews run less often. Salts other than NaCl are played with form time to time, as some work at temps lower than NaCl. Calcium Chloride is the most popular substitute, but cost is a limiting factor. Airports generally us CaCl or other salts. MO, and perhaps Ky and Tn are more conservative with the salt, but with the exception of those states, the slave states pretty much don't salt. I contend that the roads are salted and that this continues to this day. She is of the opinion that salting roads is an ecological crime and if they do not salt her Alaska roads, the rest of the nation, especially in the radical liberal enclaves of the North East, salt has been banned. Salt helps lower the melting point of ice, but it lowers it only a limited amount. When it is -30 deg.F. outside, salt will help with melting not at all. So salting the roads in those conditions is futile. SO, those who are in the know (last time I spent any winter time back east was over 50 years ago) who gets the victory cupcake? They salt the roads. I have attached a copy of a web page written in 2014. Is that close enough to the present?
