salt or salt & sand I used to live near the Cargill salt mine in Lansing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car says,

Kei-cars are designed to comply with these Japanese regulations,
most prominently a vehicle length and width below 3.40 m (11 ft
2 in) and 1.48 m (4 ft 10 in) respectively, and engine volume and
power below 660 cc (40.3 cu in) and maximum 64 PS (47 kW; 63 hp).

Models for export are frequently fitted with bigger engines,
and other modifications that deviate from the domestic Kei-car
 regulations.

Yes, the M104 is a much better version of the M103 for sure, and probably as

The balance shaft issues were on a later V6 version, number I’m not sure of.

What does 'currently running on nitrogen' mean, is that the same as saying 'the

In MA the trucks generally can do both brine and salt, brine before the storm,
rock salt after, usually mixed with some sand. We've got hills, this is a
requirement or nothing would ever move around. The salt kills some of the grass
on the edge of the road but that's about it.

There is a significant focus in the heavy truck industry on making
electrical system connections tighter because the use of CaCl and MgCl.
These chemicals are worse to much worse than NaCl for rotting things.

It used to be that once you made it through the winter and did a little
cleanup, you were good to go. With these chemicals, you need to clean
them out thoroughly because they will draw moisture out of the air and
continue their nefarious activities -- a gift that keeps on giving ...

I recall dust in the air post-snows in Los Alamos when we first moved
there (2002), but apparently the EPA got after them, too.

Rock salt here.
I'm sure our friends can tell us what they do in the People's Republics of
Massachusetts and Rhode Isle.

Like Craig said, where it's so cold you don't dare shut down without a place to
plug in your block heater, it's far cheaper and more effective to put studs and
chains on the cars.

They salt in Spokane. They did not when I first moved here, but the EPA (!)
forced them to.
They used to sand, but that led to dust in the air. Hence, sand was banned,
and salt was substituted.
Thus they traded the pitting of paint and glass for wholesale rotting of the
entire car.

Were it not for this salt I would still be driving my beloved Frankenheap in
the winter, but instead
_another_ car has to be procured, etc. Wonder what the ecological impact is of
_making_ an
entire car that would otherwise not have been necessary?

Around here it looks to be brine, but we passed a rock salt truck on the
freeway on our
trip to Yakima this Thanksgiving.

Salt helps lower the melting point of ice, but it lowers it only a
