[MBZ] Pretty clean looking E350 wagon

2020-09-28 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I like the color. Something other than the usual silver, white, or
black. Looks like the right-hand headlight/foglight was replaced.

W211 but not the first gen. Are these to be avoided?

Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic

2020-09-28 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Didn't end up driving it yesterday. Drove it about 10 or 15 miles today
at a variety of speeds, then did the final drain/fill with the last of
the fresh fluid I have on hand. It's about $8.75/qt so I don't want to
be too frivolous with it. A drain and fill is about 3.5 quarts.

I'm assuming it might need another change or two at a reduced mileage
interval from normal, but so far so good.

I've heard the stories that if transmission fluid changes have been
neglected, then changing the fluid can stir up a lot of sediment. Not
sure how true that is, but if that's what happened the last time I
changed it, perhaps that explains what is going on.

Too bad the filter isn't a FRU.

Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic

2020-09-28 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
The one thing I do not like about the car is that it has a ridiculously
thick A pillar in combination with a minimally curved windshield, which
creates a blind spot wide enough to completely obscure a car or
pedestrian. I have to actively look around it by leaning to the left or
right. Had a couple of close calls before I got used to it.

[MBZ] OT: New Gun day

2020-09-28 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Actually Friday but I've been busyhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/Uc6rSb8gJhGRDjLb8
You might remember the gun auction I watched a couple weeks ago. This is one of
two things I bought, the other is modern and needs to come through the FFL
process. It was sold as a "Fusil de Chasse or "Gun of the hunt" which I'm pretty
sure it isn't. The French guns had a severe drop to the heel of the stock that
this doesn't have, they also only had one barrel ring, this has
two.https://photos.app.goo.gl/4Phaxgt4P49csf468
The "Lott" lock doesn't have a great reputation but this one sparks
nice:https://photos.app.goo.gl/hemQyqZy5G8rgcsz7
I *think* its actually an English Trade gun kit from Track of the Wolf. I paid
about $200 less than the kit would be and this one is already assembled so I
feel pretty good about it. I'm debating putting some finish on the barrel and
if I should polish the machining marks off of it.
Its .62 caliber/20ga so I ordered some .600 round balls and 20ga wads to shoot
out of it. The balls are undersized to accommodate cloth patching which will
make them tight to the bore and easier to load. I'd like to take this hunting
some during deer season. With no rear sight or rifling I'll want to be real
close but after last fall's deer (30 feet) I don't see that as a real problem...

Re: [MBZ] Can someone try this please -- ML500

2020-09-28 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

4JGAB75E85A553276

This 05 ML500 I just got on the road has a clunk in the RF wheel when
accelerating from a stop, trying to figure out if it is the axle, front
diff, or something else in the suspension gone bad so I wanted to look
at the parts diagram and list to see what all was up in there that might
be clunking.

I noticed it yesterday, did not yet get it jacked up and under it to see
if anything was amiss.  If it was a 126 I would suspect the track rod
mount but I don't know if this has a similar setup. Steering is tight so
I'm thinking it is not anything in the steering linkages, and I don't
feel it in the steering.

This link under front axle, Transverse Control Arm, Torsion Bar etc. is
the one that is not working

http://mb-teilekatalog.info/view_SubGroupAction.php?lang=E=BM=1=FG=06H=163175=33=225

There is a buzzing/grinding sort of sound coming from somewhere around
the engine too, varies with RPM, present when stopped so I guess it is
something mounted to the engine, or maybe the torque converter but I'm
not sure how that could buzz.  I can't really tell from listening under
the hood.  I also noticed while driving this occasional irregular
drumming-like thump from somewhere too (not the radio!), kinda weird.
Vehicle seems to drive fine when rolling, just these weird noises.

Thanks.

2020-09-28 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
If your 5 or 7 speed starts out in 2nd and stays in 2nd, you're in limp
home mode due to an electrical fault.

Most common reasons for 722.6 5 speed are failed conductor plate
($100-200 plus removing the valve body) or connector ($10-20 plus
getting messy). Either one probably requires a computer reset to get it
out of limp mode.

Re: [MBZ] OT maybe Honda transmission fluid is magic

2020-09-28 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I don't know about conductor plate in an 06, that's a 722.7 trans?  I
have changed a couple in the 722.6 transmission.  That is a common
problem.  You should be able to see codes for the solenoids if it is
going bad.  A filter and ATF change couldn't hurt (get it out of the
lines and torque converter too)

Today, drove it around the neighborhood for a while to warm it

Not confident yet that this is a long term fix but so far it's looking
