Re: [MBZ] Time for a good old oil discussion

2020-10-31 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
For a 61x with a block heater or a car that isn't driven in cold weather any
conventional 15w40 is probably as good as anything. Soot load won't let you run
a 61x on an extended oil change interval.
A 60x engine is a whole different beast. I had my '85 190D up to, IIRC 12,000
miles with oil analysis that still looked fine. I changed it anyway at that
point, I didn't want to push my luck and I could tell that the car sounded a
little different.
Which reminds me, I've never sent in a sample of the 2015 Jetta, probably
should, just for giggles. Interestingly it REQUIRES 5w30. No other oil weight
meets the VW standard...

Well, they weren't morbidly obese for starters. They had limited access to
quick carbohydrates (an occasional beehive), and no access to refined grains or
high fructose corn syrup. So there's that. Take into consideration they
probably had a life expectancy of say 45 or 50 and there you go.

Last I checked the MSDS, 0W20 EP and AP were still around 2/3-3/4 true
synthetic, and some others were around 20%, most of them were closer
to 10%. You can download the MSDS at Mobil's web site.

This is why Bluetec SUVs are so hard to find and expensive when you do find

highway speeds, with diesel fuel selling at $2.25/gallon.

I was fitted for the small/medium sized pillows a couple of years ago.
It was a Fisher-Paykel model with minimal head straps that I'd dislodge
rolling around in my sleep, and the nasal openings were small enough to
feel like it was restricting airflow, so I gave up on them after a

IIRC, the goal of CPAP is to get the events down under ten per hour.

I was 45 in my sleep study.

What was her minimum oxygen level in the sleep study, does she need

A pulse oximeter that remembers a night's readings is handy.
It looks like the recording oximeters are bluetooth now, and your cell
phone does the recording.
But it might be difficult to run an app on a smartphone if you're both
blind.

The monkey lube places serve a purpose for people like my oldest son who have
little motivation for doing it themselves and have a fairly common vehicle,
such as his Ford Escape. However, when I had Focci some years back I found the
dealer did a good job of oil changes in their “fast lane” setup, which of
course was a ploy to try and upsell you additional services or find stuff that
was wrong with your car. Once I established that I was not going to bite on
their upselling, I got along quite well with the service writers at my local
stealership. To their credit, when there was stuff like a serpentine belt that
needed to be changed for $75 I would have them do it, as it wasn’t worth my
time or efforts for that kind of money - and I didn’t have a place to work on
the car at the time, either.

I would never take one of my MBs to a monkey lube place, however. They won’t
have the proper filter and don’t know the car well enough to service it
properly.

I wonder why they dont just go run on the salt, where there is official
timing equipment set up and no one can dispute their obviously fake video
on top gear or wherever.

In sailing, there is a whole speed record council set up. You have to hire
an official observer to come out and watch the attempt. The gps has to be
according to specification etc. The guys who did that ddwfttw propeller
sail cart Blackbird and the vestas sailrocket guys both have good vids on
their record attempts.
