Does a coupe use a coupe only windshield? I thought only the rear window
was coupe specific..
Someone set me straight on that detail please.

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes 2004 E320 4Matic Belt Tensioner Assembly Question.

2021-05-13 Thread Rick Knoble via Mercedes
I have a W210 chassis with the same engine. I don't recall having any issues
removing the bolts for the tensioner. (Alternator, yes) You might try soaking
them with your favorite penetrating lube for a day or so. I got a tensioner at
Advance Auto Parts and it was a Litens, made in Germany, IIRC. You may resort
to an induction heater on the head of the bolts to break the corrosion bond
between the steel and aluminum. Yeah, they aren't cheap, but they are cheaper
than a timing cover, or perhaps a Helicoil job. Plus they are useful for other
rusted nuts and bolts and WAY safer than an open flame of a torch. I have an
attached garage, and I have no desire to rebuild my house because of stupidity.
I do enough dumb stuff.

Subject: [MBZ] Mercedes 2004 E320 4Matic Belt Tensioner Assembly Question.

Hi All,
Today I decided to change the serpentine belt on my 2004 E320 4Matic w/90K.
In addition I wanted to change the belt tensioner assembly and pulley just to
head off any future issues. I was able to change the pulley but could not get
the lower torque bolt on the tensioner assembly loose. I put quite a bit of
force but stopped because I was afraid it would snap off and cause some major
issues! Thought of applying heat but it is not easy access to get heat on that
bolt location.
Anyone have a similar problem or suggestions? Since it really wasn't
necessary I was considering just changing the tensioner assembly pulley.
Mercedes Benz doesn't sell just the pulley but Rockauto does.thoughts?
Lastly while changing the belt I found the water pump bearings are very
loose so that's my project next week. Suggestions on the best water pumps?
   Thanks in advance!

I use premium in all my small engines (mowers, weedeaters, etc.)

It used to be that premium didn't have ethanol, that is why I started

There's a reasonable list of E0 dealers available here (Canada too):
https://www.pure-gas.org/

Anything over 85 pump octane is going to have octane boosters in it, and
in North America, that's pretty much going to be ethanol or MTBE. MTBE
isn't an oxidant, but it's not popular with environmentalists.

I think our premium fuel does not have alcohol in it which is why we are
using it in small engines and in the boats.

I don't use it in my truck or my wife's car. They run fine on regular

does not pose a problem.

A lot of the trades people that drive these chip them for more power.
Ultimately, the head bolts stretch if one does that. Whenever the shop
where my son worked, did those jobs they did install the stud kit. That
is expensive too.

If you leave the engine stock, it is much less likely to have those issues.

said she was thankful for once (and one time only!) that her 99E320

that a simple upgrade from head bolts to head studs was a good

a supporter (singular) stepped up and said there was nothing wrong with

2021-05-13 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I think Randy is correct on all points. The gas engines available today are so
powerful, fuel efficient and long-lived the advantages of a diesel are
considerably less than they used to be.
Last night I hauled the dirty old Ferd to Maine. 4,000# tractor on what is
probably a 1,000# trailer. Dodge RAM 1500, 5.7l hauled it no problem. 390HP, it
did hold in 4th (5spd automatic) to pull hills but I never felt like I couldn't
accelerate.
3/4 ton and heavier trucks need more expensive tires too, like twice the money.
Insurance and tax will be more too...

maintenance is high given the amount of oil they require and the cost of

[MBZ] Empty Lots, Angry Customers: Chip Crisis Throws Wrench into Car Business

2021-05-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

https://www.wsj.com/articles/empty-lots-angry-customers-chip-crisis-throws-wrench-into-car-business-11620909719

Car makers are building some models without needed semiconductors and
parking them until chips are available to install. Tens of thousands of
these vehicles sit at airport lots, a quarry, a racetrack and other
makeshift holding pens near assembly plants in the South and Midwest.

Ford Super Duty pickup trucks
parked bumper to bumper awaiting chips dotted the grounds of the
Kentucky Speedway a few weeks ago, about 50 miles from a Ford factory in
Louisville where they were built. At the end of March, Ford had more
than 20,000 vehicles parked near company factories while waiting for
chips, a spokeswoman said.GM said it was building some full-size pickup
trucks without software that helps manage fuel consumption, reducing
miles per gallon. “By taking this measure, we are better able to meet

parked bumper to bumper awaiting chips dotted the grounds of the
Kentucky Speedway a few weeks ago, about 50 miles from a Ford factory in
Louisville where they were built. At the end of March, Ford had more

I know it’s been mentioned several times but the fakebook search sucks. I
literally had an ad for a car pulled up, looked at map of where it was at, went

pulls up just about every other make as well, and I can’t find any reference to
Mercedes listed in their ads either. It will often pull up ads for the first
time that were listed days ago. It is very annoying.
