I bought one to use specifically as a plastic welder. Temp control adds
just the right extra control to stitch various thickness plastics back
together. Temp control and proper fill rod material with a bit of practice
and I've now added plastic welding to my "Repair Skills CV".
I grind my own tip shapes to accommodate the particular repair. Started
with a regular pencil type solder gun, and soon wanted better heat
control..

[MBZ] 79 300CD

So this CD I have had been sitting in the barn since like forever. New brakes 
do that’s good but it had sat before I got it and needs various other things. 
Had a half tank of fuel that had been in there for who knows how long. I went 
and put a battery in it today and glowed it about 15sec and the thing lit off 
on the second spin and settled into a nice idle right quick. I drove it around 
the farm a bit to stir things up, the PS fluid had leaked out so I poured some 
synth ATF in and then It was fine. 

I tell ya, these old diesels are so cool... getting the 300TurD running a 
coupla weeks ago, and this thing just runs.

That one isn't bad, but you can get, for a few more dollars, one with a digital 
readout.  Easier to control since you can set it properly, and typically they 
all use Weller type screw-on tips.  

I got one with hot air two for adventures in surface mount repair, which so far 
has been pretty much a disaster.  No longer have very steady hands, and that 
occasional un-commanded twitch can send a dozen tiny bits off into the great 
never-never.

Certainly worth $35 to get good heat control though!

Today I got some spam from Harbor Freight for this:

Reminded me that I need to get a new soldering iron. I have an ancient Weller 
that was my dad's but it has no temperature control and last time I tried to 
use it it seemed like it barely got hot enough.

I'd mainly use it for general electronics and automotive wiring tasks.

 I also wouldn't be surprised if Tractor Supply is just slow to restock, I 
suspect they make more profit per item on clothing than they do on oil.
Interestingly they still seem to have 2.5 gal jugs of Delvac 1 5w40 for $53. I 
might get 5 gallons next time I go up north. At that price I'm not opposed to 
using it in the Super M, I've been using 15w40 to get all the vitamins and 
minerals. It only gets maybe 10-15 hours a year so I've been changing it every 
2 years. Might go to Delvac 1 and go 3 years. Plus with having the house up 
north I might put the push blade on for the winter and if we go up there the 
old Super M might plow snow. I'd feel better about 5w40 than 15w40 at -30F...

[MBZ] OT: Bulk oil

Have any of you ever bought oil from a distributor before?
I need to change the transmission/differential oil on my '52 Farmall Super M. 
It takes 13 gallons of 80w90 which, at $70/5 gallon pail is a little spendy.
I'm wondering if I could contact a distributor if 3 pails is enough to count as 
bulk and get enough discount to make it worth it.
The stuff is surprisingly difficult to get. Tractor Supply (which I dislike 
anyway) has a really sporadic supply, I'll go in and they've got tons, next 
trip they have none. NAPA always has it but at $95/5 gal they can keep it...

V-twin Scout went 54mph stock, which seemed a little slow for high end 
750 sport bike, even 100 years ago. My 1974 Honda 200 went 80mph on
