[MBZ] MB code reading etc?

2021-10-15 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes
Remind me as to what is required to read the codes on a relatively new
Mercedes.

A fellow on another forum that I participate in has a newer SUV (GLK?)
with a diesel and is having problems and getting a bit of a run around
from his dealer.

People are telling him to get a cheap code reader and check it himself
but I suggested that is not going to work.

What does he need in order to access the information on a late model MB?

If my memory is reasonably correct some of you folks have acquired
software on a laptop and the required cords to connect. What do you have
and where did you get it?

Randy

At first I thought the timing chain broke but after I pulled the valve
cover I discovered the camshaft sprocket broke loose from the camshaft.
I have not found out why yet.  I would assume it was not simply the
sprocket broke but rather something caused it to break.  I am sure the
head will need to come off.

Re: [MBZ] Okie shop

Another neat trick is a movable chain fall.
Not really necessary if you're just rolling scrap cars in, lifting the
engines, and rolling them back out, but the bee's knees for remove and
reinstall.

I've seen two ways of doing that.
One guy put an upright pole in wheel bearings, with an arm jutting out.
He swings it over the engine bay, lifts the engine, and swings the
engine out of the way.

The better setup has a 6" I-beam attached to several trusses, and a
chain fall on a trolley, using the beam for a track.

Good point.
A friend probably paid about as much for his 4' racks as I paid for my
MBZ collection. OTOH, in the past he's forklifted RX-7s onto those
racks, but not the ones along the walls. Actually, I'm not sure if any
of his racks are on the walls, or if he can walk around all of them to
pile parts on the back side. But I'm pretty sure his warehouse is bigger
than Kleb's, it's maybe 80' wide and over 100' deep.

Mitch.

Rode hard and put up dirty. I?d go $2k on that. New trans would need to be
reprogrammed too, or just swap the conductor plate over

Re: [MBZ] Okie shop

2021-10-15 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It looks like most of what is pictured is 48" deep uprights. I choose to go
for 32 inch deep rack because 4' deep shelves are too deep to easily get
access to whatever is pushed to the back. Plus, I didn't want to give up 4
ft of the perimeter of the building. Also, narrower racks are not as
popular with warehouses which usually use both sides in long pallet rack
runs, so it's cheaper..
Keep looking, the right deal will come. With the present economy, there are
a lot of stores closing, so should be a bunch of "slightly used"
pallet rack on the market in near future.
You decide what will best work for you.
