"the driver window falls off track when you roll it down but with assistance it 
will go back up, I have the door panel for the time being the exhaust is also 
just dumped to the ground off the turbo CASH ONLY"

I guess at least he didn't cut a hole in the hood (yet).

[MBZ] Todays CIS update

With the vacuum sorted and the warm up regulator correctly connected to vacuum, 
I started it up this afternoon after it sat since yesterday afternoon. It fired 
right up with half a crank it seemed. Cold idle went up to about 1500 which I 
believe is too high. After a few minutes it was down to around 1100 or so warm 
idle. Spec is 750 I believe. I adjusted the air valve a little and dialed in 
the idle mixture screw and it seems to be pretty darn close. According to the 
dash tach it looks like it’s around 750. When you put it into gear idle seemed 
to drop too low to like below 500. I fiddled with the idle air valve some more 
as well as the mixture screw bumping the idle up just a hair. It now seems to 
drop to acceptable levels when in gear. Idle seems fairly smooth, takes the 
throttle just fine with no bogging down. Seems to be running really well. 

I believe I am now ready to move to phase 2 which will be fluid and filter 
change. The tires on it have good tread, but are cracked and need to be 
replaced. I am not sure if I will replace them or let the next buyer do it. I 
think I will probably just do it so I can drive it to town a few times. I do 
not think I’m going to do the windshield rubbers. Then I just need to figure 
out a price to throw it up on Fakebook for. Or perhaps will list it on eBay but 
not sure I want to mess with that. Maybe BAT will take it.

[MBZ] ML550 Starter

Went out to Lowe’s to buy some landscaping stuff for the yard. Backed into the 
driveway to unload. Got back in the ML550 when I was done, hit the start button 
and got a medium pitched squealing/grinding noise. Ran the Chinese scanner on 
it and found nothing. Did a “listen” test while oldest son hit the button and 
it’s definitely coming from the starter.

Almost nothing about this on the Internets. I found a few references to the 
W164 V8 starter in online forums, but nothing of substance. There is a YouTube 
video of the job but it’s potato cam stuff and the guy is a hack in that he 
took a Sawzall to the exhaust.

I’ve got to fire up my computer with the WIS, but it appears that the exhaust 
has to come off to access the starter. I’m hoping that’s not the case, as this 
isn’t the sort of work I want to be doing in the middle of the driveway…

On the positive side, at least it puked in the driveway!
