[MBZ] Tedious shop work

2023-05-01 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Last year I moved several of the nice cars out of the shop to organize
it, put up the lift etc and they have been sitting outside way too
long.  Now that I have that 450SEL done and out of the shop ready to go
off to its new owner at the end of the week, I have decided to move the
large 72" tool chest with top chest into place and start filling it in
an organized fashion.  Today I spent some time just going around the
shop throwing in a box anything socket related, and other box anything
screwdriver or wrench related.  I then spend a couple of hours loading
them into the chest on socket holders and/or socket rails.  Basically
making complete sets of sockets and throwing the extras in a box to then
use to make complete sets for the tool box on the other side of the
shop. Anyway, very time consuming but hopefully soon I can then move on
to organizing the parts.

The PDFs for usage of the tester and the tach amp are about 800k each,

The instructions he sent me include an elided link to apparently more detailed

http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforu...d.php?t=189424

mercedesshop.com now redirects to Mercedes-Benz but the old pages are available
at archive.org. I can't coax it to show me that page, however, which I think is
really:

http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=189424

Maybe someone with better experience at resurfacing old web pages can find it,
it would be useful to have as background info.

Also it has the dreaded pine tree air freshener hanging from the mirror.

The photos are dark enough to make it difficult. The only sign of rust I
see is at the bottom of the door opening on the photo with the right

Yeah I've done that several times. Also cleaned the contact socket, the pins,
with contact cleaner. Also tried tightening up the pin/socket interface in
several ways. It all works for a short time and then stops again.

I'm honestly not sure if it's the pin/socket contacts that are bad or the
amplifier circuit.

Re: [MBZ] Bornite

2023-05-01 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
For '83 and earlier the gauge in the cluster merely reads the signal send
by the tachometer amplifier. In my '85 300SD car the tach gauge was
totally unresponsive and could only be fixed by replacing the dash unit
(clock/tach gauge).

In my cars (W123 and W116 OM617 diesels), the dashboard gauge works, it's the

Re: [MBZ] Typical SW FL Car

2023-05-01 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Definitely a roll of the dice. A lot depends on how quickly it was mitigated,
that is, stuff pulled out and dried out as quickly as possible. On the minimal
experience I have, it’s near impossible to get the odor of mildew out of the
sound deadening material on the floor and the insulation under the seats, so I
would be looking for that and if it’s present to see if it’s brand new. That
would also indicate a major effort on the part of the owner, as in the cases
I’ve seen people tend to just pull stuff out and toss it rather than replace it.

I got one years ago for my 83 300TD. A guy made
them with micro electronics. It still works. If
you want I'll try and find out if they are still
available.

Sure, that works for a day or two.

Here's a thread about resoldering them.

Was hoping someone made a more reliable replacement, but I guess at this point
there isn't much of a market for that.

Did anyone ever make a reliable replacement for those?
