You just need a VGA to DVI adapter. They're cheap. Your monitor might have DVI
too. Most made in the last 10 years do, it's been out for 20 years or more.
The other thing there is display port, an HDMI derivative. They make a display
port to HDMI cable.

I have been using DVI with a Dell 2405 FPW which I got used off eBay for
many years now.

It is a 24" (diagonal) monitor with 1920 (wide) x 1200 (high) pixels and
is quite adequate for my older-than-yours eyes.

Many monitors these days are 1080 pixels high, but I prefer the extra
height of 1200 pixels for working on OpenOffice.org text documents and
spreadsheets and for Sylpheed, my email client.

[MBZ] 08ML63 spare tire

2023-09-27 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I had not looked into the spare tire well until today. I saw it had one. It is
a “space saver” spare in the sense it is deflated and compressed. The tires on
it are huge.

There is an 12V inflator in there with it with a graphic that shows how to use
it, it’s only supposed to plug into the 12V jack in the wayback. I guess when
the tire is inflated it blows up to the proper diameter/circumference. I have
never seen anything like that but I recall reading about them.

So, it has a spare. Yay.

When I am in car dealerships I am on theirs all the time and I really
have no idea what size they are.  Mine at home is 19 but its too small

laptop.  I thought about 24" but then got to thinking about 27".

It's a matter of preference.

At work some people have these huge wide curved monitors, like they are trying
to fill their entire field of vision with the screen. I tried one and didn't
like it.

I like two monitors next to each other. Sometimes I'll rotate one into portrait mode
which is nice for working on documents. Mine are about 24" and I would
personally not go bigger than that but it's really just whatever you like.

Maybe it’s due to where you live?

It wasn’t until a few months ago that Amazon started doing its own last-mile
delivery in Flagstaff. Years prior to that everything was delegated to the USPS
and occasionally UPS. If I wanted something from Amazon, I would have to order
it by Sunday or maybe Monday to get it by the end of the week. Since they
started doing their own deliveries it’s rare if something is more than two days
away.

Flagstaff is roughly 60k people, with another 30k added in when NAU is in
session. There had to be a huge volume of stuff coming into the area.

Re: [MBZ] Snookie needs to do something about FedEx

2023-09-27 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I get the hub thing but even at that every single package is scheduled to be
delivered on a certain day per their tracking, when the day comes it’s still in
Kansas City or wherever and gets delayed 1-3 days past the original scheduled
date.

My new HP work station arrived today but was originally scheduled for delivery
yesterday.

Re: [MBZ] When a Seat Looks Like This….

Absolutely. Do the springs in older seats, and definitely the horsehair or
whatever later pads are made of. It will be like a brand new seat. On the W126
and some other models of the same vintage, there were foam cylinders that went
into the center of the spring on each front corner of the spring/seat frame. It
helped to keep the corners from “dipping” when the car would roll.

I have a couple of them on the shelf, just saw them the other day.

I’m sure Donald has a far better understanding of FedEx’s system, but yes, they
have regional hubs now along with the Mothership in Memphis. Indianapolis has
been a big FedEx hub for years, and has expanded a number of times. I think
DeMoines is a big UPS hub. Lakeland, FL, the airport just east of me that hosts
the EAA’s “Sun ‘n Fun” fly-in, is a hub for Amazon’s air cargo operations.

They’re all over the place anymore.

Re: [MBZ] OT major WTF auto “repair”

2023-09-27 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I have to think dealer techs (mostly) know what they are trained, which is
going to be first and foremost the model years that are still under warranty,
since that is most of what a dealer shop sees.

Sure there are old-timers around but I doubt the dealers see very many ten year
or older cars these days. I wonder what the average years-of-experience of a
dealer tech is?

[MBZ] It’s has Powerful windows and door locks . 2009 Mercedes-Benz e-class E 350 Sedan 4D,$3,800

2023-09-27 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

Looks decent, price reasonable with the issues

It does need a battery but I got one you can have to put in it. Fans
stay on for some reason that’s the only reason I’m selling it for the
price. This car rides smooth. Plenty of cargo space and ready handles
the highway good.

Re: [MBZ] OT: What's a Sopwith Camel sound like?

2023-09-27 Thread M. Mitchell Marmel via Mercedes
Skilled Sopwith pilots could use the gyroscopic action of the rotary engine
to enhance turning in one direction, and their skilled opponents
knew this. I wonder if it would be possible to throw in a ringer by
rigging the engine to turn in the other direction so that it was better
turning in the opposite direction?

Re: [MBZ] OT major WTF auto “repair”

Yep. I only know of two or so mechanics within a hundred miles I would trust to
work on anything I own.

I rationalize tools and time this way. If I have to pay some shop $150 or so an
hour, I have to work 4 or more hours to pay this joker for 1 hour (don't forget
the 30% or so the government consumes through taxes) then I value his time 4x
more than mine.

I don't.

Even if it takes me twice as long, I'm money and time ahead. Plus I enjoy
working on things. I guess if enjoy what you are doing, it's more play than
work.
