Do some more research. That is not what it is all about. With Common Core
there is no time to teach. Each lesson is provided on a daily basis and on
to the next the very next day with no time for the teacher to pass on the
info. How can every student learn every lesson in 1 hour or less? Common
core is for sheeple.
Even our teachers are mostly against common core.

Wow. I can't believe I just wasted all the time it took to read this.

This is half of the reason most of my mail from this group gets deleted,
unread. I love to hear Wilton's tales and the other non-Benz drivel. I
hate feeling like I am listening to my teenage daughters in disguise.

As, usual Grant says it best. Wise fellow there. But not just Gary needs
to listen. Let's be logical men about the situation...if you can't get
along quit having internet balls and attacking people who you would never
say boo too in person! I am so tired of how confrontational folks are when
there is no personal interaction.

2014-02-16 Thread Michael Canfield
Ahhh, only ones I have seen were quite small. If your stove is that big
and you have to stoke it every hour then you need to learn how to burn it
properly. With well seasoned wood you should be able to build up a bed of
coals and keep a decent fire all night long with no creosote buildup to
speak of. If you are tending a stove that big every hour you are just
sending heat up the chimney and wasting a crapload of wood.

The Wonder. I used to say they call them that because after a winter you
wonder where all of your wood went. Used to shove 2 face cords or so of
wood in one every week to heat a 14x70 trailer with 12x20 well insulated
addition. That was a lot of work! They are a light guage firebox that
warps if you burn it hot. The coal models are much better than the wood
only but still there are much better out there.

I like the Jotul stoves but they are so small it seems impossible to get
a long burn unless you are only heating one room. Check out the Hitzer
30-95. I think you will like it. They are pricey new but seem pretty
cheap on Craigslist. I have less than a grand in two of them a triple wall
chimney and 2 ton of coal by watching closely.

Re: [MBZ] Snowpocalypse 2014

2014-02-14 Thread Michael Canfield
Hi Curt,
Yes we burn coal. I have had an Alaska stoker upstairs for years and an
old Fisher Papa Bear wood stove downstairs. I love wood heat but recently
stumbled on a deal on a Hitzer hopper stove. I took out the wood stove in
favor of the Hitzer. I like it so much I sold my Alaska and bought another
just like it for upstairs. Hitzer model 30-95, requires no electric to
burn, crank out heat like no tomorrow if you want or will burn 24 hours on
a 30 pound hopper on low. Shaker grates and a nice ash pan keep it neat.
2 of them are keeping a drafty 1800+ square foot farmhouse with almost no
insulation and an open12 foot balloon frame tin roof at 70 when it was 0F
out and burning about $12-15 worth of coal a day to do it. Not cheap, but
the house is drafty, the windows suck and we were burning a crapload of
wood and not staying as warm. We tend these twice a day and leave them
be.

I thought the Alaska was great until I got a real coal stove. The stoker
is noisy and requires electricity. I only need that for the fan to
circulate now so less on that bill by a little. The Hitzer is Amish made
and I have spoken with the owner of the company who will get on the phone
and answer any questions. They will also sell parts direct at a very good
price. Check them out at hitzer.com

Blizzards and ice storms used to be the norm here. We don't worry. Small
generator will run the pump and fridge. Coal stoves will burn as long as
we can shovel a path to the coal pile just outside the back door.

Never try anything but K1 kero in a wick type heater. If you can even get
ULSD to light you will ruin your entire house with the smell and possibly

Re: [MBZ] WHAT DRIVES SUCCESS IN AMERICA?

2014-01-26 Thread Michael Canfield
On a similar note, years ago, Ford noticed they were having a lot of
trouble with Ranger transmissions going bad. They had 2 plants building
what were supposed to be identical assemblies. One in the US, one in
Japan. They noticed the units from the US plant seemed to be the ones with
the most failures.
After much research they found the problem. When an employees in Japan
was given a print and a part was supposed to be within a range of say
.002-.005" he would strive to get as close to perfect as possible while the
US worker would be happy as long as it was within spec.

Draw your own conclusions.

Re: [MBZ] Seating Beads on New Tires

2013-12-27 Thread Michael Canfield
Easy on the ether in a little tire like that. Just a quick shot works
better than a big one. Get the bottom seated, spray, step back and light a
piece of paper to toss at the gap on top. No need to hurry a lot, the
starting fluid needs time to mix with the air and won't come out the bottom.

Works almost every time.

good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it is the motto around here.

Re: [MBZ] 123 '85 TD Wagon castor Adjustors and other suspension stuff

2013-12-22 Thread Michael Canfield
Replacing the rear control arms for play? What? That sounds ridiculous.
Why wouldn't you replace just loose bushings?

Replace camber adjusting bolts? Unless the car is so rusty they won't come
out without damage there is no need to replace them. They don't wear out.

I don't know your mechanic but it sounds like he saw you coming and is
taking advantage of your lack of expertise on the subject.

Anyone else catch that?

The Amish folks have come up with all varieties of steel wheels. Rubber
isolated with steel traction area, solid steel with rubber traction area,

I think the foam filled tires are a better solution for a work tractor that

Looks like it's a Powerstroke. They are bulletproof for the most part. Not
as efficient as a Cummins but if ya like a V8 that can turn 3k rpm's at 20
pounds of boost while merging into traffic at 65mph loaded a Powerstroke
sure will make ya grin. Mine is a 97 with 215k on it. Original automatic
transmission still going strong.
