Re: [MBZ] Craigslist archive?

2010-12-07 Thread SteveB
I set up a Google Voive phone number for Craigslist. It allows me to block
anyone that I do not want to hear from anymore. I have not had to block
anyone but it's a nice option as well as I get text messages at my regular
phone, where the number is forwarded to, and a voice mailbox I can check on
the computer. Phone listings move faster for me.

I am getting ready to install the replacement transmission on my 240D.
Anyone replace the torque converter seals on these that can offer any tips
on getting the old one out? It looks fairly simple but would like any
suggestions you may have. Once that is replaced I will reinstall the tranny.
I plan to put in regular trans fluid to intitally start it up, run it for a
couple of minutes or less and then drain the mixed old/new fluid and replace
the filter and fluid with mobil synthetic.

Interesting turn tonight on both my cars. I talked to Don Plowman, the
previous owner of my 1987 300D. He replaced the engine and did the trap
oxydizer recall on the car. It was his wife's daily driver. He is the senior
mechanic for Hendricks Mercedes here in Charlotte. He has worked there for
32 years. We first talked about the turbo that blew on the '87, and then the
240D. After we got past the "how much do you want for the car", we discussed
the transmission issue. Tomorrow I am pulling the trans pump. It sound quite
simple and it would explain what happened. with the car. I will follow up
tomorrow. If I didn't get up at 4:10 every morning, I would be out there now
working on it. The turbo will have to wait for the weekend as he has me
looking for a relay issue.

Re: [MBZ] 240D Transmission issue

2010-03-18 Thread SteveB
Well I sold my SL yesterday, and put the 240D into the garage, so I will
drop it tonight. I can't find any information on the transmission in my
electronic Benz manual, so if anyone knows the .pdf document name, I could
use it. 3

Thanks,

[MBZ] 87 300 D turbo troubleshooting

2010-02-27 Thread SteveB
Today on my way back from looking at a 380 engine for my SL, my turbo quite
working on my car. I had started out from about 10 mph when I accelerated
aggresively and the car gave a nice black cloud of smoke, and developed a
high pitch whine wheneevr the turbo was suppose to be working. I drove it
home about 30 miles with no boost. It runs fine, just no boost, temp
normal, oil pressure normal. I turned 392,000 miles on the car today, but
the turbo is only suppose to have 100,000 miles on it per the previous
owner.

What do I do to trouble shoot the issue and determine what I need to R&R?

The W123 manuals are available for free download on thepiratebay.org. Type

Re: [MBZ] looking at '87 300D

2010-01-22 Thread SteveB
My 87 300D has the 17 head, with 190,000 on the motor and 390,000 on the
chassis. Runs great, average around 25 mpg driving fast, but I have seen 30
mpg driving it at the speed limit. Paid $1050.00 for it 3 years ago but had
to repair where it was rear ended prior to my owning it. I had offered $1000
to his asking $1750 on Craigslist, but he said no he would wait to see what
he got on Ebay. I bought it off Ebay for the $1050.00.

Should hit 400,000 in 39 weeks or less.
