Re: [MBZ] $1200ML500 722.9 tranny
I managed to run fluid through the cooler by pumping fluid in the feed line and letting it drain from the return line. This involved bodging up a hose to fit the end of the feed line but it worked to get the old nasty sludge out. Reading the procedures there was one that said to do this and it would flush the torque converter but I only pumped maybe half a liter through. Another procedure says to pump fluid into the pan 3L at a time ($35 worth!) while engine is running and let it run out from the return line and do this 3x ($115!). I saw something else in a post somewhere that said the TC might actually have a drain plug but someone might have confused that with a 722.6. I’ll look tomorrow. I’ll get the fluid filled tomorrow, there’s a procedure with that too to warm up the trans and add or drain fluid. Not too simple but not difficult with a scanner to monitor fluid temp. I’m not going to do the 9L flush procedure, I’ll fill it and maybe drain some after awhile and add more to get it mostly clean and new. There are no obvious leaks, mostly steering fluid it looks like as the PS is not working well and I think the pump is leaking. New cheepchineechit pump is $50 from amazon, I’ll get to that. The underside was surprisingly clean aside from what I’m thinking is PS fluid. No oil leaks so that’s all encouraging. Oh and there was minimal crud in the pan so that was encouraging too. I’m guessing it’s pretty hard to run a trans with minimal fluid that is old nasty and burned. Where all the rest might have gone is a mystery. --FT Sent from iPhone > On Jun 27, 2021, at 5:33 PM, Max Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > Find the leak... > > Maybe add some dye to help with that? > > Max Dillon > Charleston SC > > > Jun 27, 2021 4:02:04 PM Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > : > >> Had approximately 1L, if that, of fluid in the pan. Find the leak... Maybe add some dye to help with that? Max Dillon Charleston SC Jun 27, 2021 4:02:04 PM Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes : > Had approximately 1L, if that, of fluid in the pan. I was thinking if the converter can't be drained, run three or four fills through it to flush it out and dilute what's left. Honda recommends three fill drain cycles. Here is a video of a guy doing the same with a Benz. Expensive for the fluid? Yes, but not as expensive as a transmission rebuild. https://youtu.be/mqyZHvqfMk4 Rick ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

That should be good news, hopefully. Refill it with fresh ATF to the proper level and hopefully all is well. Keep us posted. -D Sent from my iPad > On Jun 27, 2021, at 4:02 PM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > wrote: > > Had approximately 1L, if that, of fluid in the pan. Re: [MBZ] $1200ML500 722.9 tranny
Not that they are equivalent, but the transmission in my Element has been steadily improving with fresh Honda fluid. Last summer it would not move; was using Castrol fluid that claimed it met Honda specs. Since then I have done three changes with Honda fluid and there is still an occasional slip/slow gear change but it is driving much better. Unfortunately the main transmission filter is not replacable without splitting the transmission case. There is a small inline filter in the cooler line which I have changed. [MBZ] $1200ML500 722.9 tranny
Had approximately 1L, if that, of fluid in the pan. Hardly any came out the drain hole and not a lot more when I dropped the pan. Burned and nasty. Could be a sign! Doesn’t look to be too much schmutz in the pan so that’s good. I’m going to try to get the cooler lines off to flush those. Not sure how to do torque converter, I need to read up on that here in a minute. Might have something to do with the cooler flush. FedEx delivered the trans stuff from FCP this morning so that was good. One piece missing for the $900E500 But don’t need that right now. --FT Sent from iPhone ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
