Should be right on the receiver/drier.

I have had problems linking to some of the sites. In the case of later
volumes where some of the pdf file names have letters at the end (like
83-510ha.pdf) I have discovered that if I change the "ha" to "HA" the
link WILL work. Other links SEEM to work with one browser and not with
another. There have been times when if I tried to connect to a link with
one browser I couldn't connect, I could with another browser - AND if I
copied the that link back to the first browser (that wouldn't previously
display the site), it would display the site (perhaps from the cache the
other browser had established).

2006-07-05 Thread Rich Thomas
On my 79 TD, the LP switch (if I remember right) is down low on the left
on the refrigerant pipe, I think there is a fitting there with the
referenced device, and a wire(s) coming out of it. I think it traces
back to the compressor. It is fairly easy to get at, and to see if it
is open/closed with an ohmeter. I recall that testing this device and
jumping it was how I determined that my system was actually working and
that it was low refrigerant that was keeping it from working (contrary
to what the former owner/Benz mech told me). Alas, a gas leak kept it
from working for more than a day after I put some more in it.

So, is it possible that the compressor clutch is always engaged whenever the
key is switched on, due to a faulty low pressure switch or compressor
relay? Remember, this system presently has no refrigerant, so I assume the
compressor shouldn't be allowed to operate--correct? Anyone know where the
low pressure switch and/or relay reside on an '84 300D?

Those files are mainly for manual a/c, Casey. I've scanned the wiring
diagram from my paper manual for acc2, stripped from list copy, which
I think might provide much of what you need. 83.8-603/15. Those
things aren't really legible in the cd version anyway.

The compressor should run almost all the time that the engine is running if
the climate control is anywhere besides Off or Economy. (assuming there's
at least SOME refrigerant in there).

Ah ha, you are correct. I'll try again tomorrow evening with the valves in
the closed position.

Casey,

It sounds like you have the valves open on your test gages, and

If the valves are closed. You should have a nice delta P across the
compressor, assuming the compressor is turning, and not just the
belt driven clutch
pulley.

If all the above is totally wrong, and the compressor is turning, it is
probably bad.
