Re: [MBZ] 2001 Mercedes ML55 AMG

2023-12-28 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Yes, I meant to mention to the group that HF had a good deal on a Bauer(?) RO
polisher this past week. I have one of the old $40 RO polishers from some years
back, and it’s working just fine.

And as far as the paint, if it looks like it will clean up, great! That, or
invest in a good detailing and let the detailer have at it. They’ll be able to
make it look decent, I bet. The only catch is if there is a clearcoat
(probably) and it’s started coming off. If so, there’s little you can do but
drive and enjoy.

But - it would be a good negotiating tool, too, especially if you go see it
with some dead presidents in pocket. They tend to do a great deal of
communicating when brought into the conversation if you know what I mean.
Especially since the seller, clearly a poor negotiator, has already tipped
their hand as to why others have passed on the car.

The ML55 looks nice. Other than cosmetics, you should be good with the
rest. It’s a solid drive train and engine. That, and the ML55 had some
nice little amenities, like the trip computer in the upper console, and a
spare that’s stored inside the cargo area rather than below the car, for

Adding a hitch is the same for any W163 across the board. Hitch and a

Re: [MBZ] 2001 Mercedes ML55 AMG

2023-12-28 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
They are one of MBs silly hot rods (lets stuff a big ass engine in this SUV,
just because…) but work very well. Very capable off road too. The ML63 is more
outrageous but probably not as reliable as the 55. If you get it you’ll have
some good fun and enjoyment.

Good luck!

Sounds like a swell idea.
My next hurdle is going to be how much “fading“ is too much. In one of the two

i’m getting kind of excited about this. I just have to make sure it’s not just
because it’s different, new and shiny. I’m still waiting for more pictures from

Re: [MBZ] 2001 Mercedes ML55 AMG

2023-12-28 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Time for a reset here…

I got confused between the W210 E55 and the ML55. My bad, it sucks to grow old
sometimes…

The ML55 looks nice. Other than cosmetics, you should be good with the rest.
It’s a solid drive train and engine. That, and the ML55 had some nice little
amenities, like the trip computer in the upper console, and a spare that’s
stored inside the cargo area rather than below the car, for example.

Adding a hitch is the same for any W163 across the board. Hitch and a brake
light isolator will set you back about $200, along with maybe an hour or two of
installation time. Easy-peasy.

Some of these had engines with head bolt issues, not sure if this is one of
them, I’ll check. I think it was later models with a different engine.

That's not a totally unreasonable price as it looks to be in good
condition. The 55s demand a premium and the color and designo interior
is cool.  I don't think that one is a kompressor but it will still haul ass
