Nope. Youngest son is saving to buy 10-20 acres in the south county,
which is very, very rural. I’ll build a 40 x 60 shop for my cars with
a lift and retire there.

I live in Bloomingdale, near the top left center of the map. He’s looking down
in the Fort Lonesome/Duette area (lower center of the map.) Nothing out there
but abandoned fish and tree farms and cattle. Got a good friend who is a third
generation cattle rancher in the Wimauma area (just west of Ft. Lonesome) who
has about 600 acres of grazing land they would probably sell a small parcel
from because they just love my boy. Just dropped them a note to see.

http://penoff.com/Penoff.com/PhotoDump.html

He had listed this on Benzworld a while back starting at $2k or thereabouts
with no takers. It’s had all the requisite 1993 vintage/M119 stuff done to it,
but needs a lower engine harness rebuild (easy for someone with basic soldering
and mechanical skills) and the ASR sorted out - also a fairly easy fix once
some troubleshooting can be done. Heck! if someone bought this and shipped me
the harness, I would rebuilt it for the cost of shipping. It’s easy if you’ve
got the stuff.

I’m out at this point. As stated by the time I have the purchase price and
shipping ($450) into it I’ll be upside down trying to get everything sorted, as
it has a bunch of minor things like rear window regulator and wonky antenna, to
name a few, that need to be addressed. My Martha tendencies would require that
I address it all, which would not make good fiscal sense in the long term.

This is a bad*ss car with a 4 liter M119 in it, and besides being surprisingly
frugal on fuel for a V8, it will blow the doors off of about anything else on
the street today.

I would bet if you walked up with $750/$800 right now he would take it. For
that and not having to pay to ship it somewhere you could have a real race car
for minimal $$$.

because I’m going to have nearly $1500 into it before I even crack the hood

That is, I would Martha the p*ss out of it for more than its worth.

If anyone is interested, I think it would be a great project car that you could
get going for minimal $$$ if you’re not worried about it being perfect. If

damage to the right side suspension. I am not sure if I will be able to fix it
as supposedly it bent the body where the control arm attached. I need to do
something with that car.

The 94 e420 continues to impress. Seriously quick with the 2.82 diff swap.
A real sleeper.

It has a faint knock once every 4 sec coming from somewhere poorly defined
under the body somewhere, and it did need a new throttle body and harness
when I got it, but other than that it is a great car.

The seats from these e420 and e400 cars are fantastic. You could get a
grand for them in good shape.

They have recently (within the last year or two) done a full suspension rebuild
with shocks, struts and bushings using MB parts. Brakes were done as well.
Full service records for their ownership, which began prior to 2010 - I’m not
sure of the exact year, something like 08/09 or thereabouts. All work was done
by the local dealer or a now retired MB indie in the area.

It’s a great foundation for someone who wants a cheap entry into the 400E
platform, as they’ve done all the requisite W124/M119 stuff that would be
necessary in a car of this age and vintage. This even includes timing chain and
guides, which I’ve never done on an M119 before 300k.

The piddly stuff are things you could easily ignore or put off, like the rear
window regulator and antenna, for example. Left rear fender has peeling
clearcoat, but it’s that panel and that panel on,y, something that could easily
be masked off and dealt with to make the exterior 100%.

You should reach out to the guy if you’re interested. I will gladly rebuild the
lower harness gratis if you get it to/from my abode. It’s not a big deal to

2018-01-31 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Man that is really tempting.  I'm wondering if a Kleb price would do it,
or if he would not want to go lower than like $750 (which is still a
good price I would think, the car looks pretty nice though I'm not
really into white).

So you think the ASR is the culprit?  Is that something
straightforward?  Would it be something that could be done easily to get
it running or would it need some bench work? Knacker parts from any old
124?  or is it more than that?

The wiring harness I could easily deal with I suppose, sounds more like
a bit of a pain than anything else.  Is that also putting it into limp
mode? What would YOU do to get it running right?

I bought a regulator for the 210 for like $40, that is no big deal, or
just grab one at the knackers.

damn you you are talking me into this.

Max, feel like an upstate road trip?

If
anyone wants the contact info for the seller, let me know. CL has beaten him up
pretty badly, so I suspect if you were ready to walk up with cash in hand you
could even get it for less than the current $995 asking price.
