I just had my SDL seat out for the second time and it is as bad as or worse than the heater fans they stick on a stand and then build the car around. The problem is, once you get the seat out of the car, you can't unbolt the seat from the slides or the slides from the power mechanism. I thought I was real smart and had the bottom off of a 126 SE on hand before I took the seat out. WRONG the SE seat had large pins and the SDL seat had small pins. NO swapping parts, even if you COULD get all the bolts out. You cant get the seat into a workable position with the plugs in for power, and you can't move the cussed slides without power to the right pins. What we need is a test/repair bench for sears with plugs and switches from a junker to move the seat around once it is out of the car. The only solution I have had is to pull the seat, take out some bolts, put it back in move it fore/aft and take the seat out and remove some more bolts until you get them all. This means you have to put in and take out the cussed seat 2- 3 times for disassembly and the same for assembly. I did manage to get my slides straightened and working again, but it is a ROYAL pain, and with heated or the vacuum operated ortho cushions, it gets even worse. Well you are going to have to remove the seat completely. First move seat all the way back and remove front 2 bolts, then move all the way forward for the back 2. Then you can get to the motors etc and see if one of the wires is damaged or something. Harry Watkins wrote: I have the drivers seat out of an SDL and have bogged down. [MBZ] Anyone know of a good seat repair site?
I have the drivers seat out of an SDL and have bogged down. My problem was that a new fuse would allow it to operate for a week or so, then blow another fuse. It was during the fore and aft movement. I keep taking more and more screws, nuts and bolts off, trying to get to a point where I can see how things work and be able to inspect for wear or damage. I hope someone has a procedure, or steps to follow. Anyone? Thanks Harry Watkins Newton, MS 86 SDL Silver 85 300D Euro 86 SDL Gold 81 240D manual trans
