I found some new ones on eBay that were less expensive than at Cheaper Than
Dirt, but it seems the CTD prices aren't out of line for new shirts. If you
could have some shipped to somebody in Los Angeles, or to Gordon in Chicago,
Hendrick could start wearing them and they'd just be part of his laundry when

Hmmm...I think the risk is minimal of triggering sensors. I have carried
live ammo in carry-on recently and had no problems.

Perhaps the shells had residue of HE rather than "cordite" (an ancient form
of gunpowder).

I once attended a course for about a week at the FLETC. It rained a lot
during the time I was there and I kept hearing "thunder" while I was in
class. I later found out that it wasn't thunder at all, but the ATF class
blowing stuff up right next to our classroom! Wouldn't you know that when
we cleared TSA at JAX several classmates and I were "selected" to go through
the puffer. I thought for sure that the puffer (which are infamous for
finding a lot of false positives) would sense the explosives we had been
around all week. Nope.

Hendrik,

The older shirts may still be around, but given the nature of the enemy
our armed forces have become much more disciplined about the disposal of
uniforms to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. If you find
some, do get an official receipt 'just in case' questions are asked on
your way back out of the country. I also recommend that you launder
them well prior to packing; the scent of fresh cordite may be detected
chemically and then Hendrik & Co get removed from an aircraft to answer
questions by law enforcement, and at the very least you miss your
flight. If you have any doubts, ask the U.S. airlines and they'll point
you in the right direction. It may be easier to mail them home. My
neighbor the airline pilot had a flight held at gate for 30 minutes
until law enforcement showed up to remove an entire family who had a
memento from their son (U.S. Air Force, old shell casing made into a
unit decoration). Very inconvenient and embarrassing for all, each
family member was removed in custody of two very large men and separated
for questioning and had to convince the local bomb squad not to blow up
their luggage, and in the end the memento was confiscated for
destruction.
