I suspected that. Engineers are data (numbers) driven and meticulous. Not bad
traits :)

If you would like to create a data stripped version, that would be great, but
no hurry.

Thanks,

Yes I am. BSME 1977 from Ohio Northern University. Worked large machine tool
industry throughout my career. Most of my time was spent with Cincinnati
Milacron. Finally retired in in 2020.

I could create a stripped version of the excell file if needed, might take a
day or two?

I use an excell sheet to track my fuel and maintenance for each car I drive.
I have extra columns for keeping track of when I need to do several of the
regular maintenances as oil change and fuel and oil filters. I also track
miles per gallon trend total gallons used along total fuel purchases. See

Re: [MBZ] Car Maintenance Log App

2021-02-10 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
I use the written log book method.
Short of a car fire, it is always available and in the car.
I find the bound composition books [dollar store has them for a buck] works
nicely
When I start a new book for a "new" vehicle, I always start a title page
that lists things like VIN number, year, battery size, oil and fuel filter
type and size, etc etc... only takes a few minutes to have all that info at
your finger tips, and the battery in the book is never discharged, WIFI
signal is never lost, etc..

As parts are replaced, or repaired, a log entry, in pencil, is made that
lists brand, date, manufacturer, and where I bought it, how much I paid for
it, etc...

Same data level for tire changes, alignments, brakes, bearing packs, oil
changes, etc.. The book goes in a gallon zip lock bag, with a pencil [ink
pens dry out in AZ heat] and the "book bag" goes in the glove box or
console.

Then.. I never have to rely on the "Cloud losing my data" or some
electrical nanny that can fail crashing and losing the data.

Yep.. Old School.. Thanks... works for me. Keeps the fleet in control.

True, but a Google spreadsheet isn’t going to be easy to update while I’m at
the gas pump, or for that matter, even more so when it’s Mrs. Dan at the gas
pump. That’s why I like the convenience of the app. Everyone can have it on
their phone and it updates across all instances. For example, the youngest son
still maintains his car records in my database despite living 2,000 miles away.

I use an app called “Road Trip” that’s done by a guy out of Canada. I think
it’s only for Apple/iPhone/iPad, but it’s great. It syncs across the cloud
using a Dropbox account, so I can have it on multiple devices and it’s always
