Re: [MBZ] Damn 606 intake manifold.
You are not supposed to own one of those things. If it is out of warranty/off lease, it is meant to be scrapped. You are supposed to buy a new one. At 09:47 PM 10/14/2007, you wrote: Anybody figure out a way to diagnose and work on the fuel side of a 606 engine ? And I don't think you can run the engine with the intake manifold removed. It is not near as convienient as working on a 617 (and I presume 602, 3 or 4 engines). I've had limited success removing the body underside covers and laying under the car with it up on blocks. But this feels dangerous and what you can safely reach and manipulate from underneath is pretty limited. To repair anything on the FI pump side, you have to guess what the problem is, then invest a couple of hours removing and replacing the crossover and intake manifold to change some part or make adjustment. Then start the engine to see what effect it had. Usually you have to repeat that whole procedure over and over until you guessed the correct fix. I keep a stock of intake manifold gaskets to do this. Am I going about this all wrong? Has anybody else with a '95 E300D found an easier way to work on this side of the engine? Re: [MBZ] Damn 606 intake manifold
Hello Ned , I agree it's a PITA to have to remove the intake ! My 617s (126 and 123) are a breeze to work on as compared to the 606. My MB tech/mechanic friend who replaced the delivery valve seals showed me that you could start and run the engine with the intake off if diagnosing fuel leaks. The engine did run rough, but it beats assembling and disassembling back and forth. If you do find alternate methods , please share !!! regards, VIK MOMJIAN 1996 E300D 198k miles 1981 300SD 273k miles 1980 300TD 149k miles (needs some top end repairs) ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
