Don't know if I can find photos, but I know a local fellow who made a
trailer out of a Porshe 924. The car had been crashed and the front was
damaged. He removed the front clip, engine etc and covered the firewall
and the front windshield with aluminum and painted it to match the car.
Removed the interior and installed a mattress. He goes to racing events
all over North America and in the warmer weather tows this along to
sleep in.
He tows it with a matching 924 so it looks sort of interesting. It
looks normal from the rear but is a bit blunt on the front. I believe he
has the other windows blacked out as well but cannot recall if he
applied some sort of film or just painted the inside to provide privacy.

interior and stripe on outside of '87 300D. Started to paint it white to
match the '87 300D, but it sits outside in the weather and under trees all
the time, and I thought white on it would look too grungy too fast - the
ivory didn't work out very well for that - so I painted it same as the 124
interior. Some places in the red are flaking/spalling and beginning to
show
spots of the old colors.

I have noticed that, though I hadn't put my finger on it as clearly as
you said. Our utility trailer bed is about knee height, which makes
hauling off concrete pieces easier than putting them in a pickup.

Yes, I have hauled a couple of items in recent times that were heavy and
tall and would have been difficult to put into the truck and to get back
out.
One was an 80 gallon air compressor with the vertical tank. I was able
to use the portable engine crane to lift it off of a trailer but would
not have been able to do so with the truck as the crane will not extend
high enough.

MB trailer photos attached.

Actually, it's made from a mid-to-late '30's Ford pickup cargo bed.  Haven't
been able to pin down exact year.  Bed is a heavy gauge steel (much heavier
than modern).  I replaced axle, springs and wheels about 15 years ago.  I
also added tri star and MB wheel covers then; they make it a great
conversation piece.

Its paint is beginning to be a  bit embarrassing; for 35
years, I've painted it the color of the tow vehicle of  the time: bronze in
'79 to match top of '74 Plymouth van, blue in '89 for '87 Dodge Caravan,
red
in '96 for '95 Dodge Caravan, ivory in '04 for '81 300D and red (burgandy)
again for
interior and stripe on outside of '87 300D.  Started to paint it white to
match the '87 300D, but it sits outside in the weather and under trees all
the time, and I thought white on it would look too grungy too fast - the

When my wife saw it last summer, she was first impressed that Wilton had a
Mercedes trailer, but when I let her know the truth, she was a little

Why? Is it blasphemous? For Ford or for Mercedes? ;)

BTW, the Ford logo of the time is still stamped into the tailgate between
the tri star and the license plate, and is not hidden. ;)

BTW, the original fenders have obviously been trimmed and cut off
horizontally at front and rear at cargo bed level rather than protruding
several inches down past that level the way they did originally. There is
no evidence of other fenders having been installed or fenders having been
switched/replaced.
