Don't get me started. Uh Oh, I think I'm starting:

Being a sports star in this country is akin to being royalty. You are
often above the law - especially if you are non-white.

Having recently gone back to school as a 35-something to get my
degree, it was very telling to sit in the classrooms and walk the
halls with the jocks. They really do live that same attitude that you
see in the pro sports stars. Their physical abilities place them in a
higher class. And they carry themselves with that whole air of having
somehow come from the hard streets of the inner city or something.
It's that playa - bling-bling attitude to put it politely. Hilarious
seeing this at a private college in rural Minnesota.

One of the main reasons I have trouble getting behind any sports team
is that there is no loyalty. I mean, if you, for example, are with the
Phoenix Suns, I think you ought to make Phoenix your primary residence
- preferably have been raised there - and love it, and you ought to
try to stay on your home team your whole career because you believe in
it. Then I could believe in the athlete and get behind the team.

the terrible hypocricy of the mercenary college athletes. but in
big time college athletics, it seems little else matters but winning
and everyone just supports the shirt and doesn't get too concerned
about the guy who is wearing it.

at least when you watch harvard vs yale or army vs navy you can be
reasonably confident that the players on the field have something to
do with being student at the educational institutions they are
representing. at georgia or georgia tech, you can be reasonably sure
they aren't.

The *Atlanta Silverbacks Women* continued their dominance of the
*2007 W-League playoffs* tonight when they beat the *Seattle Sounders
 4-1*in the semi-finals of the
 * W-League Championship series* in Rochester, NY. The Silverbacks will play
in their first W-League Championship on *Sunday evening* at *5:30 pm* - *the

take on the winner of tonight's other semi-final between the Rochester
 Rhinos and the Washington Freedom.
The Sounders took an early lead in just the sixth minute, putting
the Silverbacks in an unfamiliar playoff position after having won their
first two matches 4-0 and 5-2. The 'Backs returned to their scoring ways at
the close of the first half when *Krista Davey* sent a cross into the box
and *Christine Latham* finished a diving header to even the score in the
 44th minute.
Atlanta did not let the halftime break slow their offensive attacks
and the Silverbacks took the lead in the 46th minute when *Monica Buff* laid
the ball back to *Tara Minnax* who finished the go-ahead goal. Buff finished
a goal of her in the 68th minute when she sent in a 35-yard shot that proved
too much for the keeper to handle. The Silverbacks finished their final goal
of the night in the 80th minute when Minnax chipped the ball into *Sarah
Steinmann* who easily laid the ball in from inside the 18-yard box.
The Silverbacks launched their W-League franchise just three years
ago - the team made its postseason debut last weekend in Minnesota and has
dominated every match along the way, outscoring their opponents 13-3. The
Silverbacks will fight for the W-League title on Sunday afternoon at PAETEC
PARK at 5:30 pm against either the Rochester Rhinos or the Washington
