This too, will end

Wisconsin is talkin about ending the ban on iron mining. They need to
annex da UP from the Mitchiganders. If iron came back to da UP, folks
could make a living there.

Back in the day, nobody did it better than International Harvester.
They owned the whole process, from mine to machinery painted red. They
even owned the ore ships.

One problem with furren steel mills is the steel produced is high
volume of

recycled steel which is a combination of cast, steel, mixtures of other
metals that go into making modern steels.. The ability to control material
content is seriously compromised, consequently..

In the "Old Days" of American Steel.. it started with Iron Ore straight
from the ground, purified, then the requisite amounts of nickel,
manganese,

etc were added to produce "new steel" ...

What is sold now is "remelted what ever is in the pile" more or less.

I deconstructed the 86 420SEL and pulled most everything of any value
off it (and probably a bunch of stuff that isn’t) and took it to the
scrapyard today. Got $78.20 for the hulk. I have the window sticker,
cost was $50,950 including $1050 gas guzzler tax. That was a lot of
money 31 years ago.
