[MBZ] MB Parts Accounts at epc.startekinfo.com -- $75 Membership Fee will be charged/

2016-07-31 Thread Larry T via Mercedes
Hi All,
I just got a shock - my credit card was charged $75 for a "Membership" in the
Parts Program at MB. Don't know about the others but I joined to gain access to
their Parts Diagrams. I just learned the program is being managed by a
different company which will no longer off the "Free" subscriptions. The
problem is, they have our credit cards on file and I found out they are not shy
about charging the cards without much (any?)
pre-authorization. At least they didn't in my case. I found my CC had been
charged $75 to renew the "Free" membership only when I saw it on my bank
statement. As those who created memberships know, they required a CC to confirm
something or other.

Anyway, if you have memberships, be sure you cancel or whatever before they
charge your card unless the parts diagrams are that important to you to pay
$75/year for membership.

Now, I am trying to get the $75 refunded.

I hope everyine is having a great weekend?

2016-07-31 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Thanks, Larry. That seems to be a growing racket on programs that are
periodically renewed. It happened to me on www.malwarebytes.com
Malwarebytes kept my CC number and charged it the following year without my
permission. Neither the bank nor Visa wanted to make them refund.
I asked the bank twice, and both times they promised to get a refund, but they
never have.

I've thought about getting a late model Mercedes to replace my two 123's, but
since a Mercedes dealers mechanics mistake destroyed the engine in my daughters
'08 GL320cdi, told her she needed a new engine, and charged her $2000 for
repairing the brakes; (both the engine and the brakes were working quite well
after a 100 mile highway trip to the dealer when she went in for a scheduled
oil change.); I've decided to keep the 123s or switch to another make.
Daughter hired a lawyer who made the dealer pay for a new engine from a German
owned Indy who had it shipped from Germany, and refund the $2000 which she had
not approved, but she was still out $1500 paid to the lawyer plus the time,
trouble, and travel.

I think I wrote about it before the case was settled.

There was nothing wrong with the engine. Daughter took it in for routine oil
change; nothing else.
For some reason, mechanic went into the engine, put the chain back wrong,
cranked it up, and destroyed the engine; according to dealer.
Dealer billed her $15K plus $2000 for brake repairs (no engine or brake trouble
lights had come on).
I hooked her up with Continental Imports, an indy I've known for a long time,
they put in a new engine, and it has run fine since then.

Mercedes benz of south atlanta makes some form of the parts books
available online. It is FREE and does not require a CC.

THis is why I never wanted to give those clowns a CC number. This and

Moral of the story is: "don't trust the stealer for anything." There is
a reason they are called stealers. YMMV.

Gerry, same reason I decided to keep the 123 240Ds. (and 124 300Ds and SDLs)

Re: [MBZ] MB Parts Accounts at epc.startekinfo.com -- $75 Membership Fee will be charged/

2016-07-31 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

My last sign-up was in April 2015, my subscription expired this April and when I tried to sign in I was prompted to pay if I wanted to continue, and I didn't. There's no way they could 'accidentally' auto-renew me after that, but of course I didn't save the screen shots of the 'your subscription has expired' session. The annoying part is I don't remember which card I used for the 'we won't charge your card, just give it to us for the Hell of it'. If I do get hit for $75, I'm strongly considering filing a class action against MBZ for credit card fraud, as they're the ones who took my card info under false pretenses. Mitch.

It was a weird explanation from the dealer. Daughter had spend thousands with
the dealer since the car was new. Dealer probably thought she would pay any
bill without question just like she had always done.

2016-07-31 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Sadly I'm told the same thing is true of VW dealers when it comes to TDIs.
Apparently the TDI timing belt tensioner installs opposite of how the gassers
do and the dealer "techs" routinely install them backwards trashing the belt in
short order and quickly leading to the demise of the engine.
VW dealers are also known for often putting the wrong oil into TDIs...

Moral of the story is: "don't trust the stealer for anything."  There is
a reason they are called stealers.  YMMV.

Gerry, same reason I decided to keep the 123 240Ds. (and 124 300Ds and SDLs)

My subscription is still in expired status, but there's a link right on the login page to "Renew my subscription".Is there any chance that Gerry clicked the "renew" link?

You might want to check your statement for the time frame around your
subscription expiration just to be sure.

Hi Mitch,
If you're referring to Malwarebytes, not likely because I didn't access their
website until I saw the charge on my credit card statement, had no reason to.
If you're referring to epc.startekinfo, that wasn't me. I don't belong; never
have.

2016-08-01 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Checked my credit card statements, no charge yet, and my EPC-online account
now shows expired. I think perhaps the card I used to renew last time
around was subsequently replaced with a new card, so what "they" had on
file would not have worked if they tried to charge it.

How can we voice our displeasure? I'm going to send an email to Tom Hanson
and also MBNorthlake, let them know that this move is going to make it more
difficult to order dealer parts, which will probably result in fewer sales
to me.
