That seems an odd use for it.

I repair a lot of stuff with it - and occasionally shoes too!

2019-01-16 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Good to know that works. Next time I have a floppy sole, I'll try that.
I figured ShooGoo was some form of thermosetting plastic, so I thought
it would work under vacuum.

In Nov, I scored some black athletic type steel toe shoes at the awa
farm store for $15, marked down from $80 or $90. Sketchers brand.  I was
not sure about them, but I wear them to the gym and some other places
and I love em, especially for the price.  I never notice them being
"safety" shoes.   THis store deeply discounts stuff they want to get rid
of, and then discounts it again and again.  These were marked down to
$30, then they put on a sticker saying "50% OFF THE LOWEST PRICE"

For now, all my boots and shoes are holding together.

I guess that depends on how much solvent comes out of the glue and how much
that relaxes the vacuum.

[MBZ] OT: Shoe Goo

2013-04-19 Thread Jim Cathey

I used shoe goo again yesterday. Unusually enough for me,
on _shoes_! Wife's rubber boot, not old at all, split down
the side. I roughed/cleaned up the area and used SG to
glue a patch of bicycle inner tube rubber over it. Not
all that pretty, but maybe will work. I'm surprised she
threw 'em to me, she of the new or nothing, but perhaps
it was more in the nature of a bone she was throwing...

My recent research revealed Shoe Goo does _not_ recommend

have been using their suggestion to use acetone.

[MBZ] OT: Shoe goo tonight!

2011-05-20 Thread Curt Raymond
Thought of you lot tonight. I had to take the gas tank off my Cub Cadet tractor
a couple weeks ago as it was leaking. I found where somebody had brazed the
bottom and apparently left pinholes, its not a terrific job so I cleaned it
good and skim coated it with JB Weld. At some point I'll seal the inside with
POR15 but I need the tractor back in service soon to spread some dirt around
the yard.

Anyway tonight's project was to fix the straps that hold the tank on.
Originally they had some kind of rubber adhered to them. At some point somebody
made new rubbers with inner tube and held it on with duct tape. With the
leaking gas and the heat and oil and whatnot the rubber and tape had turned
into a nasty gelatinous mass. I scraped it all clean and used shoe goo to
attach strips of viton sheet I got from McMaster-Carr.

I didn't take the time to clean it really well and repaint because I ruined the
wire brush for my grinder grinding on the replacement spare tire carrier for
the Ranger today. I'll repaint the outside someday... Probably when I get the
engine rebuilt next year.

[MBZ] OT Shoe Goo?

2007-03-22 Thread Frederick Moir
Hi, All.
I need boot repair advice. I was wrestling the snowblower into the shed after
this last snowfall and managed to stab the toe of my rubber(?) boot with the
end of a small bolt, 1/4 dia. The bolt pulled out and the hole closed up, so I
only need to seal the top of the boot. Will the infamous Shoe Goo be the
best? Or are there other, better, solutions. Clumsy Clot wants to know.
