Re: [MBZ] OT: Another Bimmer diesel
i inquired about service on that exact car at my local dealership and was told they couldn't accept it for service. although the E34 body style is common here and they're familiar with the M21 motor it shares with the 85'ish 524TDs, there are enough things different about it that they've had cars exactly like that sit for months waiting for parts as seemingly simple as Air Flow sensors... cheers! e redghost wrote: You show up at the Bimmer dealer in that and scare the snot out of the monkeys in the back if they had to work on it. IIRC, 1984 was the only year for the Lincoln with the BMW diesel. Very hard to find now. I've seen them in Hemmings occasionally. Has a self-leveling suspension system of some kind, supposed to be a very nice ride and plenty powerful. Alex Chamberlain [EMAIL PROTECTED] '87 300D Turbo '01 VW Beetle TDI (wife's)

This is interesting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemrd=1category=6008item=4562114425 The E34 (third-generation 5-series) is IMHO the best car BMW ever made---their version of the 124. With a diesel it would be a dream come true. I'm a bit worried by the seller's report of it being slow on takeoff. Maybe not getting turbo boost---some kind of problem equivalent to the infamous blocked banjo bolt? From all reports I've read about these cars, BMW did a great job of optimizing the torque and power curves on these engines for plenty of low-end grunt. Seems like a good deal for a few thousand bucks, though, assuming valid paperwork. I'm very skeptical of these Euro cars that periodically pop up on Ebay that were imported after the end of the great gray-market era in 1985 or '86, when import rules were tightened up and DOT/EPA conversions became much more expensive. IMHO, anyone buying one of those should make darn sure not just that the car has a valid state title but also that it came here by above-board means, lest it be confiscated and crushed by the Feds.
