Re: [MBZ] OT - Nylon Roller
Thanks Wilton. I do have to admit we were quite pleased with ourselves for getting it solved reasonably quickly. One always knows it can be done but it can be an issue of spending more time looking for a suitable part than it is worth. We could have bought the whole regulator out of the USA for about $125 so we could not spend hours upon hours looking for parts to repair the rollers. I had found a different type before I got the shower door rollers at Home Depot. The other set came from Lee Valley and is intended for guiding doors in a cabinet. They might have worked but I did not have confidence in the material they were made of and was afraid they might not last long. They too were slightly big and I had not really determined a way to reduce their size. I might have been able to do something similar to what I ultimately did with the shower door rollers but I would have had to find a means of attachment as they did not have the threaded stud. They were intended to be attached with a woodscrew to a cabinet. In any event, I was very happy to solve the problem. Randy On 01/11/2012 10:31 AM, WILTON wrote: ATTABOY! 'Zackly what I had in mind. I don't know if I ever posted the result of our search for a reasonable repair solution. I found rollers intended for a shower door at Home Depot. As luck would have it, they were almost perfect - just a wee bit too big in diameter. I used a simple jig to make them a bit smaller: - a strip of wood with a hole drilled in it to attach the roller - then clamped that in a vice - then pushed it into a sanding drum on the drill press a little bit and clamped down the vice - then rotated the roller to evenly reduce the size of the nylon roller by a little bit so it would fit into the channel. The rollers came with a threaded stud so it made attachment to the regulator on the truck very easy. We just ground off the original rivet and bolted these in with a bit of locktite. It works fine. Cost was about $5 and that was double what it could have been as I bought 2 sets in case I was not successful with my first try (I had not figured out how I was going to reduce the size when I was in Home Depot). So, I have a spare set - if I can find them if I ever need them again. Re: [MBZ] OT - nylon roller
Yes I was going to suggest both things -- the Ace Hardware has quite a selection of random bit, and the MB window roller thingies might be a close fit, though bodging them into your setup might be troublesome. The other thing might be to turn some out of brass or some other soft metal (aluminum?) and just keep it all greased to keep rolling well. --R On 10/16/12 1:03 PM, WILTON wrote: I've noticed bins of many different sizes screws, bolts, grommets, etc., at large hardware stores such as Lowes.
