For what it's worth, Autoenginuity's site does list transmission temperature among the realtime data their software can read, if I am understanding this list correctly: http://www.autoenginuity.com/Mercedes-All-Systems-List.html My mind boggles as to why a computer's help is needed to aim headlights, HID or no. I think the Citroen SM had steerable headlamps in Europe but not in USA. The 99 E Class with HID lights adjusts the beam position depending on rear load so that you don't blind oncoming drivers as much when you put a bunch of crap in the trunk. That was probably cheaper than putting SLS on the car. -Dave Walton On Thu, Feb 17, 2011 at 11:33 AM, Alex Chamberlain apchamberl...@gmail.com wrote: On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 5:19 PM, John Reames jwrea...@comcast.net wrote: I've both. Right about the SM per Wikipedia, and I could certainly see D-B engineers wanting to integrate headlight control into a computerized active suspension system such as many of their models now have. (Car goes into a hard turn; computer stiffens suspension on the outside to reduce body roll, and turns headlights a little bit up and into the turn to compensate for weight shift and give the driver a better view.) But I thought John R. was talking about needing the scan tool's help to perform a static aiming, as it were, of the headlights, as opposed to the draw a line on the wall 30 feet away and twiddle the adjusters until the beams look right method. Call me cynical, but I suspect they figured they could charge more and keep people like us from diddling with it if it was somehow integrated with the computer. Re: [MBZ] Scan tools for late-model Benz (was: Kaleb's new '99 E430)
Nash it's only the HID's and not the halogens; euro law requires washers and levelers on HID's, so you have to make sure the car is empty/level as well as the motors are zeroed when you do the static aim, else you might find yourself illuminating your bumper or overhead signs or something... -- John W Reames jwrea...@comcast.net Home: +14106646986 Mobile: +14437915905 On Feb 17, 2011, at 12:32, dave walton walton.d...@gmail.com wrote: Call me cynical, but I suspect they figured they could charge more and keep people like us from diddling with it if it was somehow integrated with the computer.
