[MBZ] Turning a Page

2014-01-25 Thread Bob Rentfro
Sent my '80 240D off to Yuma last night. The fellow wanted a project. The
was pulling it home to Yuma (about 160 miles from my house) with a clapped
early 80's Astro van and a car trailer that looks like Columbus brought it
over. Of course the 240D, which had been sitting since before Thanksgiving,
started right up. Bless its heart.
So now, for the first time since 1983, I am without a W123 in the drive. I
can't seem to convince my neighbor he needs to give his 1960 190SL garage
queen so I reckon I will have to keep my eye peeled for something I can
have as a true projectsomething I will not have to rely on daily to get
me to the old nuclear plant.

Just sold my house and now I'm going to find something with a Jaime-type
garage so I can have the room I crave. Boo-yah!

Trust me, you want nothing to do with a 190SL unless it's a garage queen.
Those things are major PITAs to work on at every turn.

Congrats on moving on. Now you'll be able to find something a little newer
than a W123 to putter around with. You could move up to a W126 and experience
the true luxury of the times in a car that's like sitting on your family room
couch as you cruise down the road.

Guess you don't need that seat then :)

I'd always thought about making it into a chair. Guess now I will.

Anybody know what size the bolts are that hold the back to the base?

Maybe it's Heckflosse time?

Yeah, right. I almost bought one in 1993. I probably don't have enough
extra money laying around to throw at a project yet. Boo.

They are not that bad (in terms of $) to keep running as a driving car.

To get them to showroom condition is another matter. Same as any 50
year old car.

Somebody needs to save this one.

Huh? Superfluous? I thought you loved your wagons. You worked so
hard to get a matched set!

I liked having a matched set of 124 wagons.

It was nice having 2 nice SDLs for a while

Then there was the set of 3 burgundy MBs 107, 123 and 126

Superfluous and unneeded are interchangeable to me. I thought you
used them both. I am shocked you consider them superfluous.

Actually we had a set of 123 wagons too. 230TE and 300TD Not
matched color, but a pair of 123 wagons still. Not a long period.
I sold both to capture a rare 124 300TD. SWMBO loved the gold 230TE,
but later came to love the 124 300TD.
