[MBZ] Weight of Bio/ Aux Fuel Tank
So...what does a gallon of bio weigh? If I slapped a correct aluminum aux tank in my trunk and filled it (26 gal) of bio, what would the weight be? Would I be all saggy in the rear (the car you clowns). I hate the look of a saggy rear (in my cars too). That is the price the old German guy at the boneyard here wanted for the one he had. I haven't seen one since...until now. I have a friend coming out here for Thanksgiving from Joplin...maybe I'll put a bid in and, if I wim it, I'll have her schlep it out here to me. Bob Rentfro '77 300D 142K Litchfield Park, AZ

Almost the correct weight to make the car ideal in snow (weight distribution about 50:50)!! Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.) Would I be all saggy in the rear (the car you clowns). At 6 pounds per gallon it would weigh about the same as an adult size passenger in the back seat. Does your car sag when somebody sits in the back seat? If you fill both fuel tanks and put five big adults in the car it will droop. If you have one or two people up front and both tanks topped you should not notice any appreciable change. Dan -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Most liquids weigh approx 8# - close enough for planning purposes. 26 gal X 8 = 208#'s Your rearend might sag. ;-) Sincerely, Larry T (78 240D) A Blood Test for your oil - www.youroil.net For Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil Weber Carb Stuff http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs http://members.rennlist.com/my_911/Index.htm For my Paint Job Info

(FWIW, the shocks are fairly new, and springs seem good.) having the weight farther back makes the same weight have more of an effect on the cars attitude; to the point that if i put the carboys at the front of the trunk it doesn't make as much of a difference as if i put them at the back. And if you stuck a 20 foot pole out the back of the car and hung the B100 on it, the car would sit even lower. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.) Re: [MBZ] Weight of Bio/ Aux Fuel Tank
the geometry involved seemed obvious to me (and you, apparently); but that didn't seem apparent to a poster who implied that the weight in the trunk was like a passengers weight in the rear seat,... that's why i thought it necessary and appropriate to be specific and clarify. was there something of value you were trying to add to the discussion? cheers! e ernest breakfield wrote: when i throw 20 gallons (4 x 5 Gallon carboys)of B100 in the trunk and fill up the tank, it's noticeably lower in the rear than if i have a passenger in the back seat. Marshall was obviating the obvious by demonstrating the multiplication of force (in this, the weight of several carboys of B100, which can be depicted as a downward vector acting upon the rear axle) as applied by use of a lever, particularly in reference to storage and transportation of alternative fuels in Mercedes sedans.
