Can't see owning one of those unless you truly do
go off-road a lot.  I think they handle and drive
a bit like the Unimog.  I _would_ like one of the
newer luxo-barges (W463), but ONLY in diesel (G300D)
and they're just not available here.  Our road
occasionally qualifies as off-road.  Today, in
fact, from the looks of the snow out there.

We do almost enough offroading to make one worth having. A 616 isn't powerful 
enough to tow the snowmobile trailer though. A 602 turbo would be a slick 
ticket. Plenty of power and able to start easily in the winter.

You've got it backwards though, the Toyota looks like the Saab. It was the 
first column shift manual I ever drove. Never did find 1st gear but it took off 
well in second.

Unlike Don I wouldn't call the old Saabs a tank, they're really small but quite 
zippy. Some crazy low HP number but the car doesn't weigh anything...

The two-stroke, three-cylinder is the first Saab I ever drove. Very cool.
Wife (the first one, not the second/current one) shared the car with her
mother as a high school student. She said guys at the fuel station would
argue with her when she asked them to pour a bottle of two-stroke oil, which
she had in the car with her, into the fuel tank.

[MBZ] lust

[Wonko the Sane]

Got a ride in John Robbins' 320 CDI this afternoon. Was very difficult to
drive back into the 240D and drive home from Des Moines.

First car I've ever seen that came equipped with a power cup holder (I did
you not). You push a button and the cup holder unfolds itself. Slowly and in
a controlled fashion. It was very Mercedes.
