Curt asked: Why do people have performance cars and drive like weenies? 97% of it is the knowledge that should the desire or need strike, you can blow most people away. It's what helps me cope with the daily aggressive tailgaiting I get as I drive around in a sensible manner. I liken it to the big Rottwieler that doesn't get excited about much. There was a guy who lived near my high school [in the late 60's]. He had an XKE and a Corvette. I don't think either ever got over 45 MPH. He was in 60's also I think - and that used to sound old. Don't know, but I lost count of the number of cars I 'smoked' off the line in my 60 Falcon. Right up there with a 240D I'd think. Re: [MBZ] sacrilege.... i know ...
Have to agree with Rick. Ny best friend had a 98 740iL. At the time, he said it was the best car he's ever had. And I had a blast driving it a couple times. Then he had to start paying for maintenance. And a lot of electronics. He got rid of it after a couple years. After a break from BMW, he got a 530i he really liked, and last year got a 645Ci. But he won't keep them after the warranty expires. ___ GG St. Louis - Cincinnati 1997 SL500 http://homepage.mac.com/deneals/SL500.htm -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rick Knoble Sent: Sunday, March 05, 2006 11:19 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] sacrilege.... i know ... > i was looking at a 97 or 98 740 il > ( black naturally ) > i have no intention of giving up my beloved sec > my question is ... do they hold up like mercedes 126 cars ( does > anything?) > any suggestions > thanks > collins > phila pa 1985 500 sec Yeah, don't do it. I had an older five series that was an absolute money pit. I have heard nothing but horror stories about the newer Bimmers, esp. the 7 series. Resale is absolute crap on them for a reason. When I first drove my 123 coupe, the behind the wheel similarities were scary. However, the Benz is a MUCH better car. If you have to have an up-scale luxury ride, buy a MB W140.
