Yes but it has to be darned good (sensitive and specific) for the positive predictive value to be good in a low prevalence population. We are really not sure how to interpret the results of these tests yet. I have heard some tests are 99% sensitive and specific which is what would be required. This brings up a good point that a lot of people aren’t considering - what if we can’t make a vaccine? Look at a disease like AIDS/HIV. 40 years now and we really have no absolute cure.
