I think I have a 123 vac pod that came with the 79 TD, it might still

either be the same or would work. There are 3 of these in the TD,
the PO who was a mechanic asserted that the pods were the reason the
AC was not working and provided 2 of them new with the car, though
after changing one (a miserable job up under the dash and behind the
glove box) I determined that the cause was a leaky refrigerant system
and never further messed with it. If you want I can check to find it
and if it would work I can send it along. I might have kept the old
one too, which was actually working but it would now be 36yo whereas
the newer one would be more like 13 or 14, whenever we bought the car.

Now that's odd. I have never heard of a vacuum pod on the right side
of a

240D; all of the documentation I have makes no mention of it.

If I didn't have so many things to do, I'd go out and look at our car.

Got it!

I finally figured out I had a T connector i was using with the (HF Not
mity) vac pump that was leaking, giving me 0 vacuum on every test.
After I changed that the electric/vacuum switch by 107 was good, as
was the rest of the line back to the start in front of the firewall.
The number 107: "vacuum element for leg room flap" holds no vacuum, so
that is the culprit. Guess I'll ask Tom Hanson at the classic Center
the cost of that and the door lock pod.

BTW, the book does not show the vacuum/electric switch for 107. Both
are located in front and to the right of the glove box.

Vacuum is used in the manual HVAC system?

I guess it's been too long since I had the dash all torn out - but
I don't remember any vacuum for the HVAC...

Broke out the books finally:

the diagram at 80-900 shows 3 vacuum components for 123.1, but it
does not identify them or their function.

80.4-901/2 Diagram identifies and shows 3 vac components.
104: vacuum rotary switch for recirculating air flap
105:vacuum pull switch for leg room air flap
106: vacuum element for circulating air flap
107: vacuum element for leg room flap

104 and 105 appear to be the same unit according to the diagram.
They are all related to air conditioning. The air conditioning does
not work, and I don't anticipate resurrecting air cond in the next
few years. Driving with the windows down works for me, as long as
the heater works!

So I think I will put Humpty back together again, and let it be. I
have no appetite for a evapectomy size job. I'll RTFM a little more
to see if I find anything more. It appears that this is the first
time i opened the books since 2003, according to the envelope I used
as a bookmark. This car has only travelled 1000 mi in the last 5
years, and not much more than 2000 in the last 12 years or so.

The HVAC vacuum hose in front of the firewall is a complete "open"
So far, I have not found the vacuum line under the dash.

When I was working on our '82 240D/3.0, I had no trouble finding the
vacuum lines, so I don't remember exactly where they come through. As I
recall it's higher inside the passenger compartment under the dash than
you would expect. Try following the vacuum lines to the ignition switch
from the ignition switch back to the firewall.
