And while it's a natural bodily function, it seems some Camden-Rockport Middle School eighth-grade boys are taking it to new heights and making a game of seeing who can expel the loudest and grossest flatus. According to this week's Fire Cracker school newsletter though, the joke's on the boys as the penalty for intentional farting is now a detention. Strange, but true, thanks to a bunch of 8th grade boys, intentional farting has been banned from CRMS, the newsletter said. It started out as a funny joke and eventually turned into a game. This is the first rule at CRMS that prevents the use of natural bodily functions. The penalty for intentional farting is a detention, so keep it to yourself! According to a group of seventh-grade students milling around downtown following Friday's storm-related early release, the eighth-graders' escapades are well known in the school. They would do it in science class and other places, said Jordan Tyler. It's a natural occurrence and we all do it 16 times a day. When questioned where he learned that information, Tyler and the other students all said it was true, though they couldn't remember where they heard it. One of the other students, Kyle Ruger, said the act by the boys was funny, but he had mixed feelings about whether it was appropriate. Jordan Knowlton minced no words when she expressed how she felt, saying, It's gross. Remy LeVine said he was in the class when CRMS science teacher Brad LaRoche talked to all the eighth-grade boys about the issue, as well as the consequences. Attempts to reach CRMS Principal Maria Libby Friday afternoon were unsuccessful and school Superintendent Patricia Hopkins said she had not heard anything about the issue or the alleged suspected result, though she did get a good chuckle out of the news. http://knox.villagesoup.com/rewrite/108448.htm ... Roger wrote: I am outraged! Flatulence is a natural function. What are they going to outlaw next? Sneezing? Coughing? We need to get the presidential candidates policy on this. It could unequivically tell us where they stood on personal freedom. Those of us who feast on beans, cabbage, sweet potatoes, and other gaseous foods should, in self defense, become adept at silent flatulation. When certain members of Congress hear about this, we will undoubtedly soon have a federal law enforced by Homeland Security and their explosives sniffing dogs which will be trained to sniff the backsides of airlines passengers just like they sniff the backsides of other dogs. When that happens, I'm moving to Australia where farting is an art form. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] My next activity
I read an article, written back in the 80s I think, that said in the UK, the energy used to manufacture a new car was equal to driving the then average new car about 50,000 miles, if my memory serves me. It was from an old car mag, and they were trying to make the point of how restoring an old car, even though it used more fuel and no emissions equipment, was still easier on the earth than junking it, and buying new for many people. Everyone twists facts to fit their agenda, but if you factor in the fuel to mine the steel, or even to gather and recycle metal to make it into something usable again, I can see it. Is air quality due to burning oil in Timbuktu a concern these days? If anyone wants to make the air more breathable, send the poor buggers some dust masks to keep the desert sand out of their lungs. You know, I so agree! I'm so frustrated by events in the news, fiscal budget, politics... I wonder if my vote is worth the effort and fuel to show up at the polls. I do know that the biggest impact I can have is to be a good steward of resources, my own finances and 'Earth.' It's for that reason that I'm most adamant about my old MBs. They should outlive my needs. AND... I find it ironic that I'm the one most often called upon when the friend or neighbor needs reliable transportation as their new (financed) vehicle didn't serve them. Probably the best legacy to leave is the smallest footprint. I was telling a co-worker just today: In the last six months I've returned to a vegetarian diet (w/ eggs and dairy and seafood), stopped drinking coffee as of last Friday morning -- replaced by Celestial Seasonings tea, taking vitamins, and am exercising for fun rather than as an obligation. ... And, if I start hand-grinding wheat to make bread, I am then right back to my late '70s lifestyle. ... I even plan to bike to work (pedal, not roar-roar -- the motorcycle stays in the garage, too) come warm weather. I could start pumping iron and once again bench press my own body weight, like I did in the early 80s uh, no. Of course, in the '70s I was running 5 miles a day -- but given my knees and hips in my mid 50s, walking 5 miles would be a painful workout. But, the bike theme remains. In the late 70s, I commuted to work (10 miles each way) on my super-light $1800 Trek bike. Same bike is still in the garage, waiting for spring. D. I resume walking 7 miles per day each March to get ready for the summer routine. Asked an old friend if he still had that Schwinn for sale and he said, You!? That's an expensive bike just to ride to work... It's not about workout. I figure each year if I don't have a stroke or heart attack from winter hibernation I'm ready for the next season. Funny thing, the kids can't keep pace with me on that 3mi. up the mountain every morning and I smoke. They're supposed to be dancers?
