Thanks! In my world, the nautical term is "small stuff", which is used to
"seize" the bitter end of a line (wrap around the end of a big rope to keep it
from fraying).

Mason's twine is a twisted nylon twine (like 3/64 in dia) that's quite strong
and inexpensive. It is available in long spools (like 500 ft) and in many

basically disposable because it gets mired in mortar. It unwinds/frays easily

Along the River, it was fish line, up to 3/16"

I latched onto one with 3/16 line that was so big it pulled the 18' Lone
Star with 5 people upstream fast enough to make a wake, until it broke
the 3/16" nylon fishline...

I wanted to shake the hand of that fish! (or at least see how big it was!)

This was just above Lock and Dam 16

Local legend was that when they built the dam, some of the divers would
see catfish bigger than they were, and refuse to dive there again.
After getting towed upstream by this guy, I believe the stories.

On my 82 SD, the plastic levers that operate the foot-well heat flaps failed.
I decided it was too expensive (part$) and too hard (remove whole dash and ac
ducts) to restore to OEM configuration. I used a piece of wood the first few
winters. Later I rigged a piece of mason's twine from the right flap through
an eye in the other flap and back out through the right flap. With the string
slack the flaps blow closed and pulling the string holds them open. Crude but
it works.

Those multi-valve vacuum blocks (driven by the ACC) seem to be fairly
unreliable. (Our SEL has two of these in there, where one normally goes.
I mixed and matched working valves from the two to get a full operating

the inevitable failing rubber within the vacuum pods, and the occasional
broken linkage on the footwell flaps.

Lack of heat in the footwells could be any/all of these.
