Re: [MBZ] OT: non-Mercedes parking question

2016-06-15 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Same could be said of the 201 vs the 126, the 201 isn't really a much more
cheaply made car (except for the stupid door cards) but the owners tend to run
them hard and maintain them little...
Elantra is a common first car where the Sonata is often an upgrade car.
Maintenance is everything.

The elantras going through the auto auction were invariably falling
apart/crapped out.  The sonatas seemed to have everything working.  Some of the
difference might be attributed to a different class of buyers, but I don't
think that accounts for all of it.  I would not recommend any hydie elantra
down, but sonata is a good car.

Curt Raymond via Mercedes June 15, 2016 at 9:02 AM via Postbox It all
depends on what you want in a car, I prefer smaller and sporty so I like the
Elantra. The Sonata is a lovely driving car though.I made a trip a few months

isn't all that bad". Then on the way back I had a Sonata which was MUCH

2015-04-06 Thread Randy Bennell
I may have told this story before so if it sounds familiar, hit the
delete key.

Not sure if it is a true story or just a joke with a punch line?

In any event, it goes like this. . .

A woman with a cart full of groceries and a couple of small children is
standing in a shopping centre parking lot looking lost.

A fellow shopper asks if he can assist her in some way.
She says she cannot recall where she parked her car.
He offers to help her locate the car and asks what kind of car and what
color it is.
She says it is either a Ford or a Chevy and it is either blue or green
(- typical woman?)

But, she tells him, the driver's side front hubcap is missing.
So, he goes up and down the rows until he finds a blue Ford with a
missing left front hubcap and it turns out to be her car.

The really odd thing about it all, was that there was a bright red canoe
strapped on the roof, that she had forgotten all about.

One car I rented in the past had a "find me" feature; you pressed the
button on your wireless remote and the car honked its horn and flashed
its lights.

If your remote doesn't have that, on most cars pressing the lock button
twice will toot the horn.

The problem with personalized plates is that most of them are easy
for johnny law to remember. AA is pretty good, because a good
share of them can't count that high. (to 6)

for the original problem the plate only matters if you can get close enough.

I've found that the ball on the back of the van helps to identify it
if I am close.
but you have to get to the right row, or the right level/area in a
ramp before it does any good. It is detectable at distances further
than the license plate can be seen.

So how does this work? Do you get to where you can differentiate

"Mercedes-Benz C-Class Named 2016 World Car of the Year"

*The Mercedes-Benz
 C-Class was
officially named the 2016 World Car of the Year today during the New York
Auto Show.*

It edged past the Ford Mustang and the Volkswagen Passat to take the award,
marking the first time in three years that a product from the Volkswagen
Group didn’t get the award. The W205 C-Class is considerably larger than
the W204 generation and is available with either a turbocharged
four-cylinder of six-cylinder engine in the U.S. market.

Of course there is also the high-performance V8-powered AMG model, but
that’s an entirely different animal. Pricing for the C300 kicks off at
$39,325 and for that price you get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
engine powering the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic
transmission. The V6-powered C400 starts at $49,515.

I have that issue with the gray F150 in the lot at Lowes - I put a 2X stake
in each rear corner pocket on the bed. They both make it easier to climb
into the bed, and I'm the only one in the lot with them. A friend hung a
stuffed toy from the rear view mirror in his expedition so he could tell
which one was his. Do something to "make it yours".
On the other hand, friends don't let friends buy/drive Asian junk cars . . .

Some years ago I flew into Dulles late at night, went and picked up a
rental car and drove on to the hotel where I parked in the lot. White
Ford Taurus. Next morning I come out and there are like 30 white Tauri
parked in the lot. I finally found it by looking at license plates, the
key tag had the plate number on it. No telling how I would have
determined which was mine if not for that, other than trying a key in
each one which might or might not have found "my" car.
