Re: [MBZ] OT: powercraft table saw

2009-10-03 Thread Curt Raymond
Free is a powerful factor...
I've got a Cub Cadet model 72 up there that I have a mowing deck for that just
isn't on it. Once I get my old Snapper running right (hopefully next weekend)
I'll make a complicated swap involving taking my Cub Cadet model 70 from home
to camp and bringing the 72 here so next summer I can put the mowing deck
together (which involves taking the spindles from a 42" deck and putting them
on a 38" I've repainted) and then swapping back and at some point rebuilding
the engine in the 70 at which point the Monkey Ward's body will have finally
given up. The engine from that I'll keep as its awesome, everything else will
get trashed...

The thing that surprised me about M Wards products was the variety of
quality. My Mechanics toolbox with a big bottom and big top - by 60's
standards not today's standards - that has survived 15+ moves and a huge
amount of use. All of the drawers still slide perfectly without any jamming
or strange behavior. It has performed perfectly. OTOH, The Craftsman 3
drawer toolbox I bought a year ago to fit between the upper and lower box is
less well built. One drawer in particular is a problem - if I don't close
it carefully it will cock over to one side and jam.

I need to call Sears and see what they'll do for me...

If it's a capacitor-start motor, there will be a centrifugal switch
actuated by weight(s) on the rotor; you'll need to be careful of the
linkage when you take it apart.

You will need to determine if the bearing grease has gotten extremely
thick or if the bearings are frozen. If the former, you might, as Rich
hinted, be able to loosen up the grease by adding back the low-viscosity
components without taking the bearings apart. If the latter, you will have
to get the bearings out to replace them.
