The coefficient of expansion for water is 207E-6/degC at 20C. Not
really sure that your proposed reason/guess is correct. Actually, I am
sure it is incorrect.

Check rockauto.com. Not to take anything away from Rusty; I certainly

astonishing prices. I found stuff for my Focus there that was

I tried using a length of Gates heater hose, but because of the bends, the
hose either kinks or narrows by the heater core. I could plumb in a 45
degree fitting, I but found the dealer part numbers for these hoses. I
will just pay for the dealer hoses and eliminate the extra fitting. I also
noticed that the return line is 5/8 but the supply line is 11/16. I'm
not sure why they made the return line 1/16 bigger.

I have been reading that hoses these days last a lot longer than the hoses
of yesteryear and it is because of the newer materials used in the hose.

Thanks,
Brian

Gates pre-formed hoses for some applications were off even 20 years ago (IIRC,

But in so many modern cars where the engine is a tight squeeze under
the hood (and in a lot of older cars too) the typical generic hose
that comes off a big reel at FLAPS won't do it, because the bends are
too sharp. The hose is flexible enough to handle gentle radius bends,
but too tight a bend and it kinks.

What's needed is generic hose premolded with a variety of bends at
different angles, and standardized fittings to join one piece to
another, kind of like exhaust or PVC pipe.

I believe that all you need are 45/90/180 degree bends, straight hose, and a
handful of hose barb union fittings. FLAPS should have the bends, at least the
45s and 90s, if only you can get the counter monkey to move past entering your
make and model into a computer and saying 'we don't have one of those'.
