Do a rolling oil change if you want to, but. A friend of mine used the same theory in his 1973 Olds Omega. He owned the car since new and he'd always change the filter top off the oil. At about 60,000 miles, he started the engine in his driveway and it went knock, knock, knock, knock, knock and then it stopped. The engine was locked up. He pulled the dipstick it read full. I came over that weekend and we started to pull the engine. I unscrewed the drain plug nothing came out! Went back to the dip stick it read full! We went ahead pulled the engine. I pulled the pan it was full of hard sludge, with a small depression for the end of the dip stick another larger depression for the oil pump pickup. I figured the engine had been running on about one quart of oil for a long, long time. I have a friend working over in the middle east. He tells me, ppl there do regular oil changes, as oil costs next to nothing, but they seldom change the filter. lol Ed 300E On 11/02/2008, Tom Hargrave [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Do a rolling oil change if you want to, but. Perfect system, never have to change it, just top it up. After 3 top ups, the oil is all new. hee hee. Almost as good as an old Jag, pour it in the top and watch it drip out the bottom. ;-) Ed 300E On 11/02/2008, George Larribeau [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My old VW bug (no longer have it) used 2.5 quarts, filter did not matter because it did not have one ...But the air cleaned was oil bath, think it used about third of a quart can't quite remember .. Hey, I hear you. I had to do some serious digging with the last one I changed. And of course, there was half a foot of snow on the ground when it happened too! Never fails. :-) Ed 300E On 11/02/2008, Curt Raymond [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The core is pretty well buried up under the dash. I changed a heater core once that let go right at the joint where the hole connects. The connection was plastic, so when it let go, it did so in a BIG way! I made sure the replacement core was all metal. I wasn't far from home but still managed to go through 30 litres of mineral water I had to pick up at a store on the way back. So, 30 litres of water in less than 4 kms is a pretty good leak. hee hee. Ed 300E - Never miss a thing.
