Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost?
I bought: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CHJ3UU4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8psc=1 and used the instructions: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+4S+Display+Assembly+Replacement/7277 and it worked out no problem. The hardest part was getting the cables all in correctly which I'd actually done right the first time but didn't believe I'd done right... The home button has to be transferred over which is kind of fiddly. I ruined its adhesive but substituted a very small drop of super glue which worked fine. Keep the screws organized... -Curt From: Rich Thomas richthomas79td...@constructivity.net To: Curt Raymond curtlud...@yahoo.com; Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2014 12:28 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost? Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost?
You can buy replacement screens on eBay form any number of vendors - you'll find the prices all seem to hover around $25, I believe. The better kits contain the tools you need, spudger, hexaglobular screwdriver, etc. You'll need some jeweler's screwdrivers and a clean work surface. You can go to ifixit.com and see the process with pictures. Mine is cracked from the edge near the volume buttons to the speaker slot, so it's not that bad. I'm just miffed as I have had an iPhone 4 for almost three years only in a bumper case I never got so much as a chip. I haven't even dropped the iPhone 4S I have now, and somehow in the first week it got cracked. Grr. I'm holding out for the introduction of the iPhone 6 or whatever will probably come out in September. When that happens I'm going to buy a 5S when prices tank. Didn't have iCloud set up before, so last night I started that. This morning I started to set up access via PC, but it requires Windows 7 or later. Bummer. Will have to install iTunes on one of the home PCs instead. Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost?
Be careful. I am in a quandary with the mother-in-law's iPad. brother in-law's girlfriend set it up for her a couple of years ago, including an iCloud account. She activated the Find My iPad feature. No one can remember the password and the mother-in-law's email address has changed since then as well. Can't even remember the recovery questions. As a result of this I can't set up a new icloud account on it for her, nor can I install or remove any apps. This came up yesterday when she asked me to set up Skype on it. I'm at a loss as to what to do short of contacting Apple. If I could get her into the Apple Store they could probably sort it out. And no, doing a factory reset doesn't change or delete the iCloud data. The device is linked to that account for ever and ever. Battery performance had become miserable before it got wet, so I'm thinking about getting a replacement battery. Prices on Amazon seen to good to be true. $4? $7? Some are as much as $13? I was expecting to pay at least $20 or more. Bought an iPhone 4 battery on eBay for $6 with tools. Item 331103502804 Read somewhere that the cheap batteries were Li-Ion and the factory batteries were Li-Po. When I took the phone apart it had an original Li-Ion battery, seemingly identical to the one I bought. Battery life is fine with the new battery, or at least no worse than what she used to get from the OE battery when the phone was newer. Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost?
Thanks Mitch, we may have escaped with just a little inconvenience, but I need to evaluate further. Bought some tools, watched a couple YouTube videos, printed out an iRevive screw chart, took it all apart and cleaned/rinsed/soaked liberally with isopropyl alcohol, scrubbed off the two corrosion spots (one at battery connection, one at what I think is the screen connection), dried with a blow drier and put it all back together. The dock connection and charging cable also had a little green corrosion going on, so a little Deoxit there did the trick. Hurray!!! The phone seems to be charging, gives the battery charging symbol when plugged in, but very faint like the screen is not getting any back-light. I'll let it charge a bit, then try to turn on and access via USB cable to PC. At a minimum, getting all my wife's contacts off the phone would be huge. I recently downloaded/saved all the pictures/videos (about a month ago) so not too much video record may have been lost. -Max ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post.
