How is it that toada has not been sued out of existence for its
negligence? there are many companies that have been lawyered out of
existence for making good products that nobody knew at the time were
dangerous. Johns Manville and many roofing companies come to mind.

Could it be that toada has immunity because it is a darling of the
liberal crowd? Darling of consumer's Reports? Or is that redundant?

That is terrible. It certainly raises suspicion of all Toyotas.
Kiichiro Toyoda would certainly not approve of how current cars are
designed to operate...or not operate as desired.

I think one would be justified with a new Grant rule: Don't drive or ride in
a Toyota with a computer controlling the throttle!

If I owned one, I think I would install a big red kill switch to cut power to
that computer, mount it prominently on center dash.

Hahhahah.. on the Grant Rule ..

Having used up 11 of my 9 lives, I can state with conviction that feat was
only possible because I required full knowledge of what risks I was taking
before hand, and set the rule that I was in full control during the event
[as much as humanly possible].

I suppose logic would indicate that habit carry over into my approach to
all machinery.

Your personal mileage may vary, however. :))

Re: [MBZ] Park your 2005 Toyota Camry

2015-04-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
With all possible respect offered to the gentlemen of this august group who
are employed as computer or software experts.

I once again raise the thought that trusting our lives to the control of
micro bits of data, transmitted via microscopic electrical pathways, via
tiny bits of electrical current, presents a clear and present danger of
failure which can not be controlled by the operator, namely myself.

In an earlier discussion regarding fly by wire airliners, carrying
thousands of passengers daily, I raised the same concern. I did then
believe, and still do believe, we have taken a path of machinery design
which progressively migrates toward failure.

Ultimately, either in an airplane, or a car, at the instant I take the
controls, I become responsible for it's operation, which means, in
practical fact, I have accepted, in the case above, the substandard and
dangerous workmanship of the maker without full knowledge of what he has
done.

For myself, I'm surprised the computer control systems work as well as it
does and more people are not killed. Certainly, the cost of repairs has
been increased and as posted earlier here, car companies are now claiming
they own your car software and hardware even though they sold it to you..
strange times we live in..

I seem to recall a time when rope was used to impress folks who defrauded
you with such sales contracts.

The story may shed some light on the death of my daughter's friend, but

I think a switch switch that shuts off the fuel pump when the airbags are
