Peltier devices are much less efficient than heat pumps.  But are much
cheaper, smaller, quieter.  Might even be less effective than the
adsorbtion cycle (ammonia/hydrogen) RV refrigerators, which also won't cool
things from warm very well, but can maintain cool temperatures just fine.

before buying, and also on the internet:

I have one from a yard sale that works well; especially if you put cold food or 
drink in it. It's pretty slow cooling room temperature food or drinks down.

If you’re referencing the skis in the trunk option, that’s VERY rare here.  
I’ve only seen it once, and that was on a W140 sedan that was retrofitted with 
it.  It requires a different back seat and fuel tank.

I didn’t look at this particular item, but I’m referring to a cooler box that 
went in the center of the back seat above where the center armrest folds up. It 
is a factory option, but very rare.
