Re: [MBZ] Wix Oil Filter - Right One?
Ah. All I think of when I hear Dana is the legendary Dana 60 differential found behind manual shift Hemis and 440 six-packs. You know, as teenagers, there are some things that you long for but can't have since you're broke. Though, I always thought the extra weight of the beastly Dana 60 was probably not worth it compared to the awesome Chrysler 8 3/4 which is known to be second only to the Ford 9 inch. Oops, straying off topic there. Brian John wrote: For what it is worth, Wix is made by Dana, the axle/differential people.
Re: [MBZ] Wix Oil Filter - Right One?
I've used them in other apps, and they are top-notch. In non-MB apps, I will use their filters (also sold as NAPA Gold IIRC) preferentially (esp air and oil). For what it is worth, Wix is made by Dana, the axle/differential people. Dana also owns/makes: - "Victor Reinz" (Gaskets, the 617A head gasket set Rusty sold me was made by them, no problems) - "Long" (no idea) - "Spicer" (U-joints,off-highway axles) Dana axles were used under many cherokees and wranglers (until the cherokee was changed to use the chrysler corporate diff). -j. It's a Wix 51385, and I am not confident that it is the right one. The Mann filter I had in there has an inner diameter "ring" at about the half way mark in the cylinder that hugs the center shaft. The Wix only has anything to hug the shaft at the top of the filter. Hope my description is understandable. Car is 83 240D.

Great - will now install the Wix filter and move car into garage before possible hail hits. Also, I googled the words "Wix" and "lookup" and in seconds was able to confirm that the filter provided me by the local parts shop is the correct one. I've not ever seen them locally, myself. I usually get the Hengst filters when I order from Rusty. I just ask for "oil filters" and trust that he sends good ones. Re: [MBZ] Wix Oil Filter - Right One?
Wix are the only filters I've seen locally that actually have a wound bypass filter instead of a wad of gin trash. Works better. However, the o-ring will be the wrong size. I need to get a new one, I've been re-using the old one. The one in the Wix box will fall off the cover and get cut, then leak all the oil out. Peter

Re: [MBZ] Wix Oil Filter - Right One?
Brian, That's the right filter. IMHO I'd use it in a pinch and Order a Mann from Rusty PDQ then change over to the Mann as soon as it arrives. No need to do an oil change when you do it. Just the filter and add oil that will be trapped in the filter when you do the change. Don't know about the Wix but other after market filters have been known to come apart. Making for one Hellofa mess. Russ W. 83 240D x2 Zoltan Finks wrote: Anybody ever use Wix brand oil filters? Re: [MBZ] Wix Oil Filter - Right One?
I use WIX and they are great filters. Just stay away from FRAM. I bought one for my SDL & I brought it home. Instead of the expected mat / pleated filter split, the filter had both sections pleated. The matted section is extremely important as it's the bypass filter that filters out all of the fine soot.
